How to stop Egg eating Chicken???

Heck other than catching the old girl yellow beaked, how do I even catch the perp?

I cannot just sit in the coop and watch and wait.

Anyone got a "good ole boy" remedy?

I seen the same problem but started keeping feed out and she stopped. Only other way is if have another place keep one or two until it stops happening and then just add the dumplings

We tried a wooden egg; it seemed to help. My wife had read that somewhere on chicken related web site. They peck at wooden egg, it is solid, hurts, so they stop is theory.

If you were to put up some pictures showing how the chick develops inside the egg demonstrating to the flock that eating eggs when you are a chicken is a form of cannibalism. If you are lucky the guilty one would hang their head in shame ans slink off to a corner. If not then peer pressure from the other chickens my suffice.

All our chickens were socialists...they were given free groceries, free housing, free range and all they had to do was strut around and reproduce. They are all pro choice.

Fair enough. How about a reasonably cheap solution?
A game camera. Or a video cam.

The culprit or culprits will have dried egg on their beak's look closely up around the nostrils.

Make sure you have plenty of nesting space and that the nests are well strawed.

A egg getting broke usually is what starts it.

Gather eggs often.

Best remedy I have found is boiled eggs for a week as their only feed, mash them good, shells and all, along with free range.

If that don't work it's time for chicken and dumplings.

That does make the shells harder. :thumbsup:
I broke one chicken of the habit by using a golf ball in the nest; I brought her home from somebody who used to mix the broken eggs into their feed in lieu of oyster shells. It was my best layer and gave an egg at 5:20 every morning... After she and her sisters got used to the coop I started letting them free-range, which I believe helps.
That didn't work with my latest egg eater though. She would use it like a soccer ball and no matter what I tried she wouldn't stop. I hated to do it; she was the only hen which laid all winter, before I started running lights. March was a good time of year for chicken noodle soup though.

One way is to separate half the chickens (if you can have extra chicken tractor) and keep moving half and half until the individual is most apparent & easier to inspect each of half of them than all of them.

hire a chicken analyst and get to the root of the problem. the poor bird probably had a traumatic experience while escaping the egg the first time and has been suffering with demons ever since. Have some compassion
