MADISON A 69-year-old man who severed his right arm and suffered other severe injuries in a tractor accident Wednesday afternoon was in stable condition at the hospital this morning, according to his daughter.
The man, Eugene St. Peter, severed his right arm and left thumb in the accident at his Cedar Street home, and he had the side of his face and an ear scraped off, his daughter Marla St. Peter said in a phone interview today.
He underwent a nine-hour surgery Wednesday night at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, where doctors performed a skin graft on his face and cleaned the other wounds, she said.
He was 電oing well this morning and was scheduled to have another surgery later in the day to continue the skin graft, according to Marla St. Peter, 43, of Waterville.
St. Peter痴 wife, Rose, called 911 for help after the accident, the daughter said, declining to discuss any other details about the accident.
滴e was in decent health other than suffering a stroke in 2001 but was very high functioning, she wrote in an email about her father痴 health before the accident.
Madison Police Cpl. Joe Mitchell has said St. Peter ended up on the ground and was apparently run over by his Husqvarna lawn tractor Wednesday at about 3:35 p.m.
He was taken by ambulance to Redington-Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan where he was stabilized, and later taken by LifeFlight helicopter to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, according to Mitchell.
Mitchell has said there were no witnesses to the accident, so the cause will not be known until police can speak with St. Peter.
