How much does Hydro add?

Hi folks:

On a smaller tractor (say 20 hp) how much is the difference between gear shift and hydro transmission? I'm curious because it's not evident in the used tractors.

That's a highly subjective question. It depends on the type of tractor, brand, and probably a couple other factors that are slipping my mind at the moment. /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

That said, a hydro transmission is generally more expensive than a gear transmission. The difference for a B7500 is about $1000, but it's a "squishy" $1000. I've seen/heard of people getting a hydro'd tractor for about the same as a gear'd version.

... and maybe you don't see them for sale because the owners like them so much???

When I bought my Kubota L3710 HST two years ago the hydro was $800 more than the gear.

Sorry, I don't have any real experience or knowledge on the B1700. Hang in there, there are a lot of (other) people here that can fill you in.

A year ago, I purchased a B7500 (in Central NY) and the hydro added $1,600 (before taxes) to the cost over the gear.

I actually ordered the gear, then called the dealer back and told him to change it to the hyro.

I originally wasn't going to spend that much, but one of the reasons in my case for getting hydro was because I have a front snowblower on mine, and with a geared tractor, the blower/PTO wouldn't run when it wasn't in gear, versus with the hydro, the blower /PTO is constantly going (unless I push in the clutch). When moving heavy snow, need to have the capability of stopping and letting the blower catch up sometimes.
