How long will the human race last?

The Mayan calendar stops on 12/20/12 anyway, or is it 12/12/12 (they changed that in just the last few years)! ~~ grnspot

I think it's 12/21/12. There's gonna be alot of nutty behavior as that date approaches.

I kinda like the thief in the night apocalypse way of thinking. I don't want to know the date and time :(

Like the thread about "would you want to know the day you would die" most said no.

 Ill have to remember that. If the stocks go down Ill buy. The value of religion manifests in many mysterious ways. Unreal.

It used to be 12/12/12 then our prize media changed to 12/20/12 (nobody knows why)!

That's why I never worried about Social Security, the world's coming to an end just a few days after I turn 62 anyway!!!!! :confused2::D ~~ grnspot

How does anyone know that 99% of all species are now extinct? :confused2:

The real problem is that man thinks he's all there is and there's nothing above him. That's the real fairy tale. Look at the cosmos and consider man. Is that all there is? Trust in man/unkind at your peril.

Man is not evolving but devolving, less civilized than ever.

Sure science is the answer..nuclear weapons, cloning, electronic gadgets.

Interesting topic. I'd like to throw in one thought...repeated reference to the human race as, "Man", is really outdated and unfair. There are as many intelligent females in the world as males. "People", "Human", my favorite, "Folks".
...we don't require our women to wear veils. There's a reason for that;)

I have to admit I don't totally discount the Mayan thing, but then again I was a little freaked out about Y2K coming:laughing: The Mayans did have some kind of advanced understanding of the cosmos, for such an otherwise primitive people. Gotta make you wonder a little, especially since we know this whole wonderful planet and all that's on it was spawned from the cosmos.

I believe in evolution and the big bang theory but I also am convinced that there is a higher order. It would be a pretty sad life IMO to not believe in something "above us"

I agree it is an interesting topic, difficult to keep religion out of it though.

As for those who treat their women like that (veiled property), let them keep doing it, it will be their greatest downfall.
I'm no chauvinist but I really have no problem referring to the human race as Mankind. I don't think it's unfair or demeaning to women in anyway.

Women are the weaker sex, but only in terms of physical strength. It has been my experience that they are far superior in most other areas of measure.

The 'end' will probably not be a total ending. It would be more likely that some remnant of the human species will survive somewhere on earth in primitive conditions. I think we will get a 'do over' in the most likely scenario.

We are far from the point in technology in which space colonization would be survivable. That assumes a host planet is found, traveled to, reported upon, and finally colonized if found feasible. Without solving the problem of travel and communication being limited to the speed of light, if that is even possible, it is extremely unlikly.

It is hard to imagine a man-made space colony being able to independently produce all the required items needed to perpetuate a technologically advanced society far from earth. That would take lots of time, energy and resources. Nobody would be willing to, or able to, spend the money it would take to accomplish that.

The last known non-**** sapiens example of the human species were the Neanderthals I think. It isn't certain yet how they met their demise, lots of theories include domination for resources by **** sapiens. What would happen if a mutation produced a viable branch off the **** sapiens line?

I don't think that is so far-fetched. For example, autism is being found to have a correlation with dna changes caused by environmental factors.

I like this verse

Psalm 39:5
Indeed, You have made my days as handbreadths,And my age is as nothing before You; Certainly every man at his best state is but vapor. Selah

What was that guy smoking?

There are beautiful, insightful verses in the bible, much good advice and more than a little bad advice. It illustrates the constancy of human nature over the past several thousand years.

Religion is based upon the mythology our culture has indoctrinated us with. Consider how powerful and constant that indoctrination is from the day we are born; if you can. That indoctrination is so perfected that you are hardly allowed to consider any other possibility without condemnation. This is true across many diverse cultures practicing a variety of religions.

Mythologies need protection to be perpetuated, the truth does not.
