How long before Compact Diesels are obsolete?

Can you imagine what havoc could be had by rodents in a modern electric vehicle, and what would happen if a battery went to ground after a particularly healthy meal by said rodent?

My Eldest Son is a mechanic. 25% of his current repairs are electrical in nature. And that's 99.9% of the time on Internal Combustion powered vehicles.... That number will skyrocket with the hybrids.

Example. Last week he changed the oil in a Prius. Customer drove it to the shop and left it. Son drove it into the shop and changed the ICE oil and filter. Son was done and wanted to move it out of the shop. It would not go into gear...... Try this, nope.... Try that, nope.... Get online and search for clues, nope.... Spent 2 hours messing with this car to no avail.... Called owner and said I'm out of ideas.... Owner shows up that evening and spends an hour on the Internet and trying everything suggested, nope.... Finally owner says I'm going to unhook the battery and hook it back up just for the heck of it.... The car started functioning again.... Son spent 2-3 hours with this car for the labor price of an oil change.... Told the owner that he wouldn't work on it again, take it to a dealer.... This Prius has 70K miles on it and has been in a frontage fender bender accident. Owner bought it for his 16 year old daughter to drive. Good luck.....

I figured the number would be much higher than 25 percent.

We're rural farm country. The majority of his repairs are on farm light trucks. A lot of powertrain and suspension repairs. I might have guessed a bit low on that percentage but didn't want to inflate it. A lot of chassis work.

This would make it more practical to produce electric powered vehicles. When the price of diesel fuel reaches $10.00, electric vehicles will become common. I and friends that farm for a living hope that doesn't happen. It's similar to the green deal.

And horses down the road on the Amish farms are still plowing. Large animals have been behind plows since the dawn of time. No electric and no petro. Who cares.

Petro goes to $10, and my smarty meter goes wild, I might have to get a pair of horses or mules. Others may turn to walk behind tractors that are so popular in the 3rd world countries at $10. Those are petro sippers.

Before giving up the diesel, I'll get biofuels at dimes on the dollar to run the tractor. Find all the recycle plastic that people are complaining about as litter. Using pressurized solar steam, melt it down in a double boiler of water. The oil separates and the goo goes to the bottom in the water. Many YT vids on getting oil from plastics for DIYers.

Should petro get to $10/gal or $10/4L, think of all the plastic things in your life you use. Hyper inflation wold take over. We'd all be in the poor house. A simple toothbrush would cost $14 by then !!!!

The ordeal with the light bulbs vs LEDs is a game too. Above 3000K LEDs, people are now getting glasses at a much younger age. Certain parts of the eyes are failing due to the weird and higher wave length. Normal bulbs didn't go away. Nor do they cost as much as an LED. What has happened is, the halogen bulb market went bust instead.
LEDs are also adding in more dirty electrical pollution. FM radio was never victim to white noise like AM radio. However in the past 5 years, it's gotten really bad.

More electric motors will create further EMI and EMF problems.

Diesel was $5 per gallon in 2010. The world didnt end. I did however get a 6 year old diesel F350 with 24,000 miles on it fir $16,000 at a dealers lot. Had sticker in glovebox that stated $58,000. No one wanted it cause diesel was $5.00. I did

I thought China was building coalitions fired plants at like a 1/week pace?

Maybe true fifteen years ago, but China is now the world leader in solar and wind power, as well as electric vehicles.

We will be playing catch up for the next twenty years.
