Apparently this kid is from NH. They had a story on him and his father on the local news last night. He took the baseball hat off his father and replaced it with a different one. He's 24 years old.

Look up some of these backhoe competition on the net, there pouring a glass of water into another. If you practice enough you can do anything.

He's got his own youtube channel:

Bobcat NINJA
BobcatNinja2124's Channel - YouTube

Anyway he's got lots of vids on there of him and that bobcat E50 mini. It's one of my favorite youtube channels.

It's impressive, but very much the wrong tool for the job. His normal operating skills might be superior too. I'd like to see him dig a 4' x 8' x 8' deep hole with a flat bottom and square sides. How about eyballing a 30 degree grade by digging from the top lip and sloping the bank around a pond? How about selecting the best position to dig and place spoils with a triangular work pad where space is limited or picking the best spot to load trucks with spoils? I know these kinds of contests are fun, but if you can't load an excavator onto a trailer and operate it in lots of different "real world" environments, these demonstrations of tactile skills don't mean much. However, this is fun stuff that builds a spirit of comraderie and pride. They are very impressive.

Jinman,

If you check out some of his other videos on youtube you can see he's got decent operator skills as well.

Absolutely! His use of the crosstie in the bucket thumb is very neat trick. of course that wide tilt bucket is just the ticket for digging swales. One of his biggest skills is not taking too big of a bite and not getting into a hurry. He does it right with the minimum movements. There's also nothing like being able to rotate a full 360 degrees when placing spoils. When I'm cutting a bank on the side of my pond with my TLB, I can back in at 90 degrees to the bank or sit parallel and dig to the side, but placing the out-rigger is tough if I get too close to the edge.

Let's face it. A mini-excavator is a superior tool for excavating. However, when it comes to moving materials, my 1-1/2 yard loader bucket and fast transport make me the winner. I just want/need one of everything.:D:thumbsup:
