Been wondering when all the garden pics were coming here
Been a wicked month here in the Northeast wind and rain...lots of rain and cool weather too with little sun most of the time. Most of my tomatoes look good though big and green and no sign of blights (Alternaria solani or Septoria leaf spot) there really has been no humidity or stagnant air.
Still haven't found time to stake some of them up yet though but maybe tomorrow
My peppers on the other hand look terrible. I had remove a lot of leaves all spotted and yellowed and the wind seems have some bent right over. I cleaned them up some, weeded and fertilized so they will probably come along still.
Eggplants seems to be holding their own and the gladiolus are loving all the moisture too though pest pressure has been high on them. Still don't really no know what eats the leaves its like they are sawed right off thrips maybe? I sprayed them with an insecticide seems to help.
Deer found their way and topped off a few things mostly sunflowers and some peppers too but not enough damage to worry about.
Cukes are staring to vine and flower now and so is the summer squash
Beans on the other hand have been freaking disaster! Have planted all 3 types twice now. The rain did in the first round of planting and crows and maybe those free ranging rabbits my neighbor let loose did in a second crop as the came up. The crows yanked the plants looking for seed and something ate all the tender young leaves like overnight it seems.
Screw it have lots of brussel sprouts coming strong as is the chard and harvested lettuce and cherry tomatoes from container plantings. Herbs are mainly all ok though basil is taking a hit but I have more maybe 3 dz plants to transplant so that'll help
Down at work its been awful wet too but put down over 3000ft of plastic mulch had purchased two 2000ft rolls with the unit and only about a third of one roll is left but boy was it an effort in all the wet soil. Overall the new Earthtools mulch layer worked good but bent a plow opener on a big rock though. Didn't stop us much really and kept going after I pounded it straight somewhat
Our commercial garlic is looking great maybe harvest by the end of the month and we started picking raspberries and blueberries
Plums will be next if the beavers don't get them all seems a family of beavers started homesteading in the farm's pond and they took down over dozen plum trees right along the edge of the water.
My garden at home...
