Looking good DFB. Do you worry about the heirloom beans crossing with the other beans? I try to keep some time and distance between my Filipino Pole beans and any other blooming beans. I've lost my banana cantaloupes to unwanted crosses, and only 1 of my 3 sets of Armenian cucumbers is the good ones. Problem is I'm not sure which one is which. Next planting I will keep better records.

I planned for those same factors of both time and distance you mention. My first planting set is all done flowering and the roma's are much farther away from the poles...probably 50 ft. And being that beans are self pollinating 20 ft is a common distance recommendation on the seed sites. My eggplants, peppers and tomatoes are all in between too

I'm actually a little surprised that some of the pole beans are setting flowers already but most aren't and wont be for while and I will probably eat the first ones anyways :D. so I'm not too overly concerned about any potential cross pollination problems and I really don't expect to harvest that crop minimum not until the very end of August at least and into early September. I figure Romas should be all done before the end of the month.

Darro lately I've gotten involved in several market farming boards on the FB. Lot of excellent shared knowledge, lots of activity too.

cukes out the ears and only two plants. What a year!

Some smallish tomatoes turned ripe yesterday. Not sure what that is about.
First green beans are done, Second planting just started picking. The Beets are sweet and crisp. Love them shredded in salad.
The rain came just at the right time. The sweet corn is all pushing flower heads (if you can call 'em that)

We pulled out some of the early greens(arugula) to make room for the fresh seed.
I sprayed the pears with copper this afternoon. They are looking mighty blotchy. Dang!

The Japanese beetles are congregating on the roses. Makes for easy collection into the drowning can. They need a predator.

First (garden) tomato sammy for breakfast this AM. yum!

Did you eat it over the sink so when the juice ran down your arms and dripped off your elbows, your wife didn't yell at you?

This was my first year growing the Yellow Pear. I am so tired of picking them. They took over the trench, choking out the other tomatoes. I've said for two or three weeks now, that I'm going to kill them and start over with Pruden's Purple. I do have a tray full of PP sprouts, so it might get done soon.

My Armenian cukes are already starting to fade, and my 2nd planting of Munchers and Straight 8's are yet to get ready. My 2nd planting of green beans didn't outlast the hot weather. And my pole beans are just about done. The 2nd planting of sweet corn is done. I ate a couple of messes off it, but the ears were small. We are getting rain everyday now, but it came too late for a lot of the stuff.

 Yeah, it's either over the sink or outside! Mayo & tomato seeds on the floor…. hard to get away with that one!

Why does it have to be August? As in Indiana Jones "why does it always have to be snakes? I hate snakes"

Man, in my area August is a tough time for gardening. Most plants have run their course and show the signs of hot, humid and dry weather. And the weeds, why so many weeds. Growing in containers and boxes helps boundary the weeds but they seem to explode in August. Got to appreciate things like okra, peppers, lantana and crape myrtles as they seem to thrive in August.

And I have one Princess Feather that is hanging on. I want it to reseed to continue more plants next year.
