The last planting of peas are up. I clipped a few Charleston Grey melons that had end rot. We cut the bad end off and they were pretty good. Also picked about a dozen ears of corn. Sadly that was about half the harvest. But I do have a few more rows of corn just a week or so behind this patch.

I've got young tomatoes coming on. I really doubt they will make much before frost. But I can always bring them back inside. My late acorn squash is looking good. Should be ready real soon.

@L.D....How do you fix acorn squash?...

My go to way is just half them and fill the seed pockets with butter and brown sugar...then grill, bake or microwave them...

The most famous restaurant around (Dillard House) has a recipe for an acorn squash casserole that is unreal good...!

squash, tomatoes, going strong... second planting of beets, beans, peas, and carrots for early winter harvest. Corn, onions, fruits and berries all finished.

The butter and brown sugar is the best way I have found so far. I cook them for 25 minutes upside down in a half inch of water before adding the butter and brown sugar to make sure they are good and soft. We have tried honey, but like the brown sugar better. I serve them at the end of the meal like a dessert.

Finally had a decent rain shower last night after what has s been a good couple of weeks of brutal 80-90 degree weather. Had to toss a whole set of green bell peppers they just shriveled up on the plants due to lack of water and the direct hot sun. Some tomatoes got sunburned but overall were ok along with most all the eggplant. Even the gladiolus didn't want to flower much and the ones that did bloomed and went by in just a few days.

Supposed to be cooler weather now have a lot of stems to mature still. Cooked up another huge batch of tomatoes to freeze for sauce my second round of them, and there is at least one more round to go. 6 Roma plants gave an abundant yield of plum tomatoes along with my 12 Celebrity's. Big eggplant harvest coming up maybe this weekend it looks like from 18 plants must have 3 dozen or more sized up ready to pick. Most of the plants have 4 or five fruit each. I have 5 huge ones in the refrigerator to make more parm with already.

My hot peppers and the Cubanelle's seemed to do the best during that heat wave. picked these few while finding some time to care for my garden yesterday morning before work.

Cubanelle's are one of my favorite peppers. Mine didn't make this year, most likely due to the saved seeds not being good.

I have a few acorn squash ready to pick.

Here is the best of my late corn crop. Not too big, but very sweet. There were a few worms in it. I had sprayed a while back, but not often enough apparently.

Nice peppers and nice greenhouse. Margie and I have been talking about a greenhouse. Our problem is not much sun in the backyard, and not wanting anything else to block the view in the front yard.
