Today when I got a face full of pollen, I realized my corn was tasseling. I picked about five gallons of peas off the six rows. Most of it came off the first four rows, so when the other two rows catch up, I'll get about a bucket and a half per picking. Everything I read on line about growing indoors said to never bring plants from your outside garden inside without a two week quarantine period. Some things you read online are the truth.

Yep. I have run out of space under the lights until I get another set hung, so that plant had got stuck to the side. Most of the lower limbs had died from lack of light, and I was trimming them off when I noticed the worm. Also noticed a couple of little tomatoes, so I had better get that next rack fixed. I have seen some informative videos on You Tube about growing with CFL's, so I'm going to try them. I bought a section of heating and cooling duct for a hood and some pig-tail sockets.

Allright finally pickled my first batch of hot wax peppers. About a 40 oz jar! :D

My plan WAS for doing this back on Monday my supposedly day off but I got it done today. Plus did another oven dish full of my garden green bell stuffed peppers smothered in mozzarella ( I cheated a wee bit the rice, meat and tomato filling was already prepared by me a couple of days ago ;) )

Now I'm wondering IF I should get into making eggplant parm or at least frying the eggplant tonight for tomorrows dinner...I am low on jar sauce so that means cooking down about 8 lbs of my ripe garden tomatoes harvest for fresh sauce too....decisions, decisions!

Maybe I should post over to that old cooking thread that's been revived!

The acorn squash are getting close. A few more days and I'll be digging out the brown sugar and butter.

I got 8 rows of purple hulls planted this morning, then replanted {for the 3rd time} the green beans after supper. Most of the ones that had sprouted from the last planting have died. I'm beginning to think it's just too hot here for a fall crop. By the time it cools down enough for them to live, there won't be enough time to produce before frost.

Edit: I forgot to say we had a nice shower this afternoon, so the peas should be in good shape for sprouting.

Have you ever tried the white acorn squash it is one very earliest, not the greatest for long term storage (the white skin darkens and turns yellow) but its so tasty doesn't stick around very long anyhow :D

No, this was my first year growing acorn squash. The only reason I tried them was I was buying flower seeds at the Dollar Tree to go in the garden, and saw some of the Table Queen. Since the little packs were 5/$1.00, I picked up a few. We liked them, so i bought a few more seeds for a 2nd planting. Next year I want to try some of the other acorn squash.

Hope your peas do well. I agree about it being too hot to get late things started. I have some late squash and a couple of tomato plants but most things have taken a dive.

On the planting before this one I had about 10% live through the first week. We had four or five days in the high 90's with no cloud cover, and everything was toast. I had to replant acorn squash, regular squash, Armenian cucumbers, regular cucumbers, corn and green beans. This time I watered by hand as I transplanted, ran the sprinklers, got soaker hoses laid the first day, plus we had cloudy, rainy days. About 90% of them are living.

Saw the first blooms on the 3rd planting of peas. I did a little math, and decided the ones I planted a couple of days ago might be the last ones for this year. I'll see how these come off and decide for sure in three weeks.

We picked peas this morning, and tonight Margie shelled 99% of them. But I did help with that last 1%

Getting some tomatoes.

That is quite the haul. I'm transplanting some tomato and pepper plants from under the lights out to the garden this morning. I sprouted more than I have room for inside, so I'm just hoping they make before frost.

This was yesterday's picking. Since I eat the squash raw, I pick them really little. And I have found the seeds in the Armenian cucumbers get big when they reach about a foot, so I've been picking them little too. The Sugar Baby melons are starting to split. It has been kind of dry, and I did run the sprinkler, so maybe I caused it.

I mixed up some of my no-till soil. In round numbers it is 4 five gallons buckets of peat moss, 3 buckets of mushroom mulch, 2 of lava rocks, 2 of Black Magic {Big Lot's brand} potting soil, 1 of Scott's potting soil, 1 bucket of cow manure, 1 cup of bone meal, 1 cup of blood meal, 1 cup of lime, 2 cups of worm castings and 2 cups of coffee grounds. You are supposed to let it sit at least 21 days, but I used some of it to transplant cucumber plants under the lights. The were starting to vine and had to go into bigger pots.

Last week I was able to buy 10 bags of potting soil {20 cubic feet} at Big Lot's for $40. They had them marked down to $5.00 each, and I ask if I bought all they had could I get a break. The man told me if I paid for 8 he would let me have the 2 that had been taped up. I loaded them up. Then on Sunday we went to Walmart for kiddie pools. They were marked down to something like $4.88. I bought 6 of them. Also bought a few of their shopping bags. I'm going turn them into smart pots and use some of the pools for a water reservoir.

The last planting of peas has come up. Looks like a good stand.

No picture, but we put another batch of peas in the freezer today.

They offered life in sacrifice
So others could go on

I pulled up a bunch of under performing peppers, added some of my new soil mix {Darro Dirt?} and transplanted new plants in.

We clipped and cut the first Sugar Baby melon. It was a little bigger than a softball, and about 90% ripe. They are splitting big time, so we figured we had better eat one at least.

I put a few tomato and pepper plants in shopping bags of soil, in a cheap kiddie pool yesterday morning. It was misting rain when I did it, and cloudy the rest of the day. They still looked good this morning, which I can't say about all the tomato plants from the other day. Going from weak florescent lights to bright sunshine was too much for some of them.

The 3rd planting of peas are starting to vine and put on little peas. It's a good thing since the 2nd planting is starting to fade. Now I'm getting less than a bucket every picking. But we have put them all in the freezer until tonight, when we saved out a mess for supper.

A big hot pepper harvest tonight. Hungarian Wax, Hot Portugal. Hot Italian Cherry and Jalapeño. No chilies though got planted though and too bad because they are favorite of mine too...grill roasted and stuffed with cheese! :D

Everything else is still yielding heavy right now too! Eggplant, gladiolus, sweet peppers and lots of tomatoes for me. Blueberries are still holding up well too.

We have a good solid week to 10 days of late summer heat and no rain coming on here per the current forecast. Not looking forward to THAT :confused2:
