This was yesterday's picking. Since I eat the squash raw, I pick them really little. And I have found the seeds in the Armenian cucumbers get big when they reach about a foot, so I've been picking them little too. The Sugar Baby melons are starting to split. It has been kind of dry, and I did run the sprinkler, so maybe I caused it.
I mixed up some of my no-till soil. In round numbers it is 4 five gallons buckets of peat moss, 3 buckets of mushroom mulch, 2 of lava rocks, 2 of Black Magic {Big Lot's brand} potting soil, 1 of Scott's potting soil, 1 bucket of cow manure, 1 cup of bone meal, 1 cup of blood meal, 1 cup of lime, 2 cups of worm castings and 2 cups of coffee grounds. You are supposed to let it sit at least 21 days, but I used some of it to transplant cucumber plants under the lights. The were starting to vine and had to go into bigger pots.
Last week I was able to buy 10 bags of potting soil {20 cubic feet} at Big Lot's for $40. They had them marked down to $5.00 each, and I ask if I bought all they had could I get a break. The man told me if I paid for 8 he would let me have the 2 that had been taped up. I loaded them up. Then on Sunday we went to Walmart for kiddie pools. They were marked down to something like $4.88. I bought 6 of them. Also bought a few of their shopping bags. I'm going turn them into smart pots and use some of the pools for a water reservoir.
The last planting of peas has come up. Looks like a good stand.
No picture, but we put another batch of peas in the freezer today.
