How about this tool??

Interesting 'stocking stuffer' or birthday gift... not really something that I would specifically go and get from the Tool Shop.

Mind you, I have the habit of making notes in my Owner Manual once I've determined the size required.

Ta for posting it...

Not sure what increments it measures in but I think it would handi. Almost like using a caliper.?? Don't really need something that reads down to the .000 all the time.

Neat tool.

I have an all-on-one metric set that the shows the size.

And real size on the other side.

Having been a mechanic for many years I can pretty much guess the size I need right off. Cool tool though.

No need by me for such a tool - I have 'calibrated' eyes! I only have to reach 4 times every time to get the right size wrench

That's why I don't change my own oil any more. Once down and once up is my limit.

Thats pretty slick for someone not in the biz of turning wrenches..
It reminds me of the guy at work {15 years} that had a roll around box.. & EVERYTIME he was up inside a truck & needed a wrench, he would climb down, walk across the shop, get "1 wrench".. walk back, climb up inside the engine.. try the wrench, oops, wrong size..Climb back down, walk thru the shop, get "1 wrench" walk back & repeat..
It drove me nuts.!!!

I am getting better at grabbing the right range of wrenches the first time. The older you get the farther away the floor gets.

You don't need an adjustable wrench with markings. Just fit it to the bolt, remove it, then match it to the tool you want.

The thing I need is an assistant like a surgeon has. All I would have to do is ask for what I wanted and it would be placed in my hand.

If I crawl underneath something I make sure that any tool I might need is within arm's reach. I've never liked crawling in and out of places and my body is starting to agree with me more and more every day.
I"ve also used the method BCP suggests using and adjustable as a set of calipers.

That's why I don't change my own oil any more. Once down and once up is my limit.

Each of my vehicles has the oil drain plug wrench size written under the hood, near the radiator,,
That is one of the FIRST things I do when a new vehicle shows up,,

That way, I only need to carry ONE wrench under the car/truck to change the oil,,,

That's the first Mexican Micrometer I've ever seen with actual graduations. What brand is it?

I love trying to figure out all these fractions when I could just count increments of 1. Said no one ever.

Part of me says, yeah, because I am challenged to get the right wrench.

But then, it's another step, and another thing you have to have. And where did I set that down? And then it's another thing that requires batteries, like my digital caliper that's always dead when I need it.

I would probably be better served by wrenches and sockets that have better (old eyesight) markings.

If I correctly guessed rather it’s metric or “standard” I can usually get it with 2 wrenches but all of my vehicles are mixed and it’s a huge pain.
