After going uphill with a bush hog I would feel better if my 8N had more weight on the front. Don't want to reinvent, so would like to hear what has worked for you.
did make one pretty cheap with a 4 inch heavy metal pipe filled with concrete. cut pipe to what length you thinks works or looks good made the brackets out of 1/4 inch steel but made it for a international but should be able to for an 8n
Check your local salvage yards. I was able to pickup over 500# of tractor weights (could have gotten more) for around .25 on the pound. Then a simple 1/2 steel plate and some supports can make an ideal front weight. Plus a bit of paint and it would look like it was purchased.
A friend of mine made one out of a 4 foot piece of railroad track. This thing was HEAVY, but it worked great. Of course, he is a professional welder, but something to think about if any RR track is available in your area.
I filled a 4"X1/4" tube with lead and used some RR track for over 300lbs of ft. ballast. The RR track was free from a local track repair place and the lead and pipe was @ 30.00.
I just use 200 pounds of tractor weights which weighs down the front of my tractor enough to keep the front tires on the ground at all times. I also have a vice and grill guarg that add about 30-40 more pounds.
