homemade DIY vavle spring compressor

Here is a video of a valve spring compressor I made...It only has to work two time lol

I just rebuilt a small block chevy, I made compressor out of some pliers I got from tractor supply(the ones below). I cut the jaws, and extended them. I pretty much left the lower jaw as is, just extended it out, it presses against the valve face. The upper one I made taller, then extended it out, and then welded a large thick washer on the end that would press around the valve spring cup, and leave room for the valve stem and keeper to poke up though so I can grab the keepers. I found most all of them I had to strike the top of the valve with a plastic hammer first, the keepers get stuck in the grooves.

I got a nephew who keep sayings his time is worth money. He'll spend $20 before taking 30 minutes to look or make something he might need. Me on the other hand, have more time than money and will spend hours trying to save $20.:thumbsup:

Edit; My homemade compressor is for when the head is off the engine. I looked a little closer at the original poster's compressor, looks like his will work with the head still on the engine. Don't forget to put compressed air in the sparkplug hole when using his invention.

I wouldn't have thought of the C clamp. It looks good to me.

I just left the head off and put a 2x4 across the valves and used wood clamps to hold them down.

Nice Build... But I would have just gone to Auto Zone and used their free tool rental...
