So my Gen-U-Wine 73 inch Caroni flail mower finally arrived today... and it doesn't work!! I'll get to that in a minute..

So I'm working about the place today trying to clean some stuff up, get some posts in the ground and get a dog fence up... beat myself up a bit and then the delivery guy calls, be there at 2 with the mower..WHOOHOO!! ITS HERE ITS HERE...

So to unload it I have to put it together first so I can chain it off the truck, the driver is real nice and says no problem, do what you need to do. So I get the top link part of the 3ph attached so I've a way to pick it up. off the truck it comes, set it down and hook it up to the tractor and off to the barn to finish up.

Get everything torqued down, fill the gear box, grease all the fittings (they've put holes in the covers to accommodate this now), go to install the PTO shaft and its about 2 inches too long (remember the it doesn't work thing above, this is why). Not a real big deal, I'll need to cut it down 5-6 inches. Really really wanted to do it today to see how it mows, but Iwas beat, had a vet appt for my dog and had to get cleaned up...so it will just have to wait till tomorrow.

Stay tuned, I'll let you know how it goes..

Heres proof!:D:cool:

Congrat's on the new piece of equipment! I am sure you will get good service out of it. Make some careful measurements, you don't want to cut the PTO shaft too short!!

Gee, looking at the photos, seeing the green plants, etc., I had to check to see when you posted- today!! How can that be? All I see when I look outside is snow and ice. Flail away.

I didn't need to shorten the drive shaft on my Caroni, but did on several other attachments. The procedure is simple as pi. My mower is a little over one year old and has been trouble-free. The only thing I don't like about it is -- it is not quick hitch compatible and far from it!

One of the main reasons I just moved here in December from colorado! Could not wait to get out of that nasty place! And I'm sure its all white now!:D

Very nice! A flail mower is on my short list of implements to add.

Ok,got the PTO shaft cut (excellent video on EA btw) dropped the feet on the sides and the rear roller so it cuts a bit high till I get used to it and to lessen the stuff I might hit till I get the place cleaned up a bit.

Did a little mowing just to see how it did, and I'll say at least for now I am pleased.. and I'll get better, still have to get used to the fact it sticks way out on that right side.

A couple more pics

I had to open up some fence to get into this "garden" field, only had a walk gate.. and an 8 foot high fence!

And here is after mowing, some of those larger trees I took a chainsaw to!

And put it to bed, then back to the task at hand, I've a fence to put up!

That thing does a NICE JOB!! Almost makes me wish I had more to mow so I could get one! :)

It was probably almost a let down to have to take the new mower off to put on the PHD. I know that when I've gotten new attachments I just want to keep them mounted and find everything possible to do to use them.

Just out of curiosity, what other brands/models did you consider before buying the Caroni (if any)?

I started by looking at rotary cutters, Land Pride, TSC, and a couple others.. dont remember what they were.. then switched my thinking to flail, looked at a used Mott and a used Alamo but for about the same money I could get a new Caroni. Seems everyone that has one and has had theirs a while really liked their Caroni and no major problems other than the pain of changing blades so I went that way. I never did find a bad review on one. And there just isnt a lot of competition out there without tripling the price.

Yeah, that's exactly why I was asking. I've been running a combination of a 6' rotary cutter, and a 90" finish mower, but I think I'd be happier with just a flail at this point for everything. I've been considering selling both, and buying a flail, but they get pricey very quickly!

You know, this one was right at 2 grand delivered.. I didn't think that was so bad considering the cost of rotary mowers these days. A decent one of those is $1300 and up it seems.

Yeah, I just wish Caroni made one a size larger. I really like how the 90" finish mower lets me cover ground more quickly than the 6' rotary mower, so I'm looking at the 87" Phoenix TE that EA sells, but it's quite a bit more expensive....ouch!

Yeah, I just had a look.. more than twice the price.. and currently out of stock.

I am considering purchasing a Caroni Tm1900. Could one of you guys/gals that has one measure how wide it is for me? I have a bridge to cross to get to one of my mowing areas that is 84" wide between railings. I can barely squeeze my 6' MC flail through. May need to drop down to a 5' if it is too wide. Thanks!
