So my mt160 has a high low gear selector and it is stuck in high gear. I can't seem to get it out of gear. I tried lubricating the selector, tried rocking the tractor a bit. It shifts fine 1-3 and R and the 3 point works fine so I don't think its the transmission.

Any Ideas?

The clutch has to be engaged to shift high/low at a stand still. (Just stating the obvious)

You might need to pop the top off and make sure there isnt a problem with the gear mesh. You should be able to see any issues from the top side.

I attached an image of the 6 forward gears, in grey are the two gears for high and low. You can see them at the top of each.

Hopefully it isnt a fork problem. Maybe someone else put it back together in the wrong spot? Screenshot_20190131-172323_Adobe%20Acrobat.jpeg

Thanks. I tried with clutch in with it rocking engine off everything. It has a solenoid looking thing on it could that be a nutral safety? Might it be bad? If so can i temp bypass? Before i open the tranny.

I am trying to remember ( I'll look in the manual later if it's not in the images on my phone ) but I seem to recall that is a safety switch for the PTO.

Yeah it's just the safety starter switch.

As you can see from this image, the high and low speed shifter is not that complex. If it's not the linkage, then its internal. Screenshot_20190131-174730_Adobe%20Acrobat.jpeg

If the MT160 is designed like my MTE2000D, the H/L gear is slid on its shaft by a pin on the end of the shift lever ( no fork). Take the top off the trans case and try moving the shift lever, you should be able to see what the issue is.

On Edit; I just looked at the manual and the range gear shift mechanism is the same- a pin on the end of the shift lever. Your issue should be easy to diagnose with the trans cover off.

Yup Kernopelli is right (and faster at reading than me too!).

Number 15 is your hi-low gear, just in front of the case bracket. If it moves on the shaft a bit, then it is the "range shift arm" that goes through the case that is seized up. 20190201_100421.jpeg20190201_100433.jpeg
