There is a John Deere forum here on TBN. Perhaps you might get more replies by posting in the John Deere forum. Good Luck. Welcome aboard. :tractor:

Big stout loader! Have a neighbor with one.

Several folk's have commented that the 50 series is a better tractor than the 40 series utility model's.

I wished I had a good shape 40's... so, the 50 would be another step up!

That said - have not read many comment's regarding serious issues with them. So, like buying anything used... much depends upon how it was maintained and worked.

Welcome! If the 240 loader is anything like the 245 loader, very HD loader. Probably overkill for that tractor.

Ooops.. I meant 245 loader. Well, they've gotta be fairly close in dimensions and capability!

Great tractor, we have a 2550 which is one size larger and it has been basically trouble free for 25 years now.

There are a few minor issues that these tractors have, but are mostly related to age (seals, gaskets, hoses, etc). Some of the more notable ones to look for are leaks around where the lower 3pt hitch arms attach to the rear axle (draft sensing rod), the hyd. pump case drain line, leaks around the bottom of the steering column, and internal leaks in either the power-reverser or hi-lo power shift if so equipped. Aside from the latter two, those are all pretty easy to fix and not very expensive. If it does have a power-reverser transmission or hi-lo power shift be sure to work the tractor until it gets good and warm and make sure both are still properly functioning.
