New member here. Im turning our old horse pasture back to a lawn and need to get a garden tractor to mow with. I ran across this site looking for info on garden tractors, never had one before. A lot of great info on this site, thanks everyone for your time to post and built a wealth of info for us newbies to tractors. Hopefully i make the right decision on what tractor will fit my needs.

Murph , other end of ohio, near cincinnati. Ibeen trying to learn all i can about garden tractors, and am leaning towards a husqvarna gt48 or 52 xls. My land is hilly, probably 25-30 degree max on parts of 2 acres that will be mowed. So larger tires with differential lock would probably be good. I also would like to use it for grading parts of it after having my neighbor run a disc harrow over it with his atv. Horses made a real mess of it. I also want to use it for grading loose gravel now and then for paths in the woods and parts of driveway. Ive read the husq gt's have a stronger transaxle than all the lawn tractors you see at lowes and hd. I'll prob be spendin around 4k with a few attachments and a sleeve hitch.thats probably the max of what id want to spend.
Theres one Husqvarna authorized service place near here, but he doesnt stock or sell them. So, i have a place for service, warranty if i cant tackle it myself. I think his shop can order one for me, but i havent talked with him yet, or got a price on one from him. Dont know if he can get me a better price than buying one online and having it delivered.
Has anyone here bought a garden tractor from one of those online shops?

I would buy a used 2 wheel drive utility like my MF-135 or JD820 or 830 something like that.

Welcome from NW Florida, R1.

I have the YTH 24 HP 48" Husqvarna. It is a good mower, but if you need anything but mowing, you will need to get a SCUT or CUT. {sub-compact utility tractor/compact utility tractor} My mower lists for $1.9K, but I got it with 32 hours on it for $900. The GT28 has a 27 HP engine. As much as mine drinks gas, I'm betting this one is even worse.

The GT 48 lists for $3.4K. For a little more you can buy a good used tractor with a RFM. {rear finish mower} You will soon save enough on fuel to pay for the difference. Plus the tractor can be used for a hundred other things a mower can't be used for. And 2 acres is right on {or over} the edge of a riding mower's sweet spot.

I couldn't find the 55 online, but looking at the GT 48, I didn't see any kind of hitch on it. Does it have a lift of some sort, or just a hole for a pin?

The gt's (garden tractors) have a hole for a pin on the back, they sell the sleeve hitch separetly. It all bolts to the plate on the back, giving it a manual lift for accessories. I saw somewhere online theres a bracket for the back that has a hook, pin hole, and place for a hitch ball, but i think it only bolts to where the original pin hole is, not sure if that would be strong enough for pulling accessories. I think the sleeve hitch also fits on the front.
I found a dealer about 30 miles away that has the gt 52xls, will check it out next week.
Is a garden tractor considered a scut? Since it is a ground contacting tractor?
