If it was a butt weld i'd imagine so. I'd have done some overlap with the diagonal supports.

I probably should not have welded close to the point where the chisel left the tamper. It was well welded, but a friend managed to unglue the whole thing and start again.

Roll the gravel with the bobcat and just tamp the edges. Use a washed gravel with no fines and it won’t compact much anyway.

Friend of mine got this to tamp sand before laying down pavers. Said it worked great. Also used a coupon, so another 20 percent off.

I have the plate compactor also and for the money it has paid for its self a couple of times over

I have one also. My backhoe has an 18" bucket and I welded eye-bolts onto the tamper so I could lower it into the trench and compact the dirt (lots of clay) as I fill in the trench. It works better than anything else I've tried, but still leaves a small ditch after a year of settling.
