I generally carry when out and about on the property-357 w/ hollow points or 30-30.

Probably will get tags going forward-just so I can take one if opportunity presents. I generally always pull tags for deer and turkey even if I don’t manage to get out to try and fill them because of other constraints.

Some how that's not what I envision when I hear news reports of "cat burglars."

I have lived in the Santa Cruz mountains for over 40 years, these cats are in our hood but seldom seen. I have seen one in that time, see tracks, see there kill and have heard them take down deer in the forest. Two years ago one was sleeping in my driveway and spotted by a neighbor on his way to work. There are places I stopped mountain biking on as I got the feeling I was on the menu there. One of my coworkers lives about four miles away and took this video out his living room window two weeks ago. The Coyote was not so willie this time.

Sorry, can not load video but, it showed a mountain lion walking outside his living room window dragging a coyote and one other lion following him. Their dog has been restricted to the house mornings and evenings now.

I’m about 40 miles east of you. We see the cat kills (deer mostly) all around us but never the cats. They say cats have seen you....you just haven’t seen them!!

I mountain bike in the area and used to sneak onto some San Jose Water Company property along the Los Gatos Creek, there where many deer trails coming down from the hills to the creek and quite secluded, I had seen mountain lion tracks and kill in this area. I was on a trail below a stand of trees and got the willies with a chill going up my back. Felt like I was being watched, I do not ride in that area alone, prefer to stay higher on the food chain.

It is sad when city folks move to our rural area and then turn the little yapper dogs out to go potty at night. Coyotes and such are always hungry, Cats have to eat too.

There are many who want to reintroduce wolves back here. One reason that I'm against it is because I like my dog, he likes going to work with me... and we were here first.

You've been there since the 1800s?

Oh, good one!!!

I contend if the predator wants to harm you, you will never see it coming.

To be effective with a gun you willl need to start shooting long before the threat has been confirmed. So, you'll hafta shoot on sight.
