I wear earplugs much of my waking hours and feel protected in the KZ with >22 NRR muffs over them & playing Merle Haggard at 3/4 volume if I'm not stalking with a rifle in hand. :cool2:
.. or just plugs like when I'm using the electric shaver, any corded or air powered tool, driving in any vehicle, dental cleaning, live music, stadium seats, on motorbike, brass tumbler. Loud is pain to me somehow. :confused2:
Closest I ever come to wild animal danger is when dispatching a coyote in a leg-hold trap with a hammer handle. (what you do) I carry a shiny .22 LR pistolover when running my line, but it's too d__ loud, and maybe I like to go one on one with maybe a risk of losing a digit or something. (I'm crushingly boring and have too few stories to tell, too.

)
btw, 'Coons have a smaller 'sweet spot' & move slower, maybe why seem to take more hits before they stop groaning. They yank the chain like canines of similar wt, but make more noise if any.
