Here comes the RAIN !!!

You know the State of Texas plants bluebonnets in places along the highways in the State. Having recently seen jinman's bluebonnet crop, I think the State needs to hire him to plant their bluebonnets. It's gonig to be quite a show next Spring, but he's out of the sight of the highway.:D

Since I seeded and fertilized just before the 1/4" of rain last weekend, this rain is coming just in time to give my yard a nice kick. I got 9/10" overnight. My bluebonnet project is just going bonkers with new plants also. Some of the little plants have as many as 4 or 5 branches with leaflets on the end of each. I even saw one standing 4" up off the ground. Fall rains will ensure I have plenty to brag about next spring.:D

You lucky dog!:D

Checked the rain gage when I got home. Just over 3" of rain over the last several days. No Bluebonnets here but I did fertilize the deer foot plots last week.

Now to come up with smoething to keep the hogs from tearing it up.

Weather has finally changed. Got 3.75 inches about 4 weeks ago, 1 inch last week. It was a good soaking rain, found that I really do have grass, really greened things up. Then yesterday had 1 inch. Last night storms rolled through, had 6 inches this morning! Filled up my tank to the spillway, drove the grandkids home ( took an extra 15 miles getting around the low water crossings). Looks like everybodys tank filled to the brim. Thank goodness, really needed it.

Bring it on! We received 8.1 inches in September and already this month, nearly 3 inches. The tanks are full for the first time in a year and a half. The top tank is nearly to the overflow. It hasn't been that full for three years.
All this, plus the warm weather, and the grass is coming back.:D

Bird, I'd happily take the job as the Texas State Bluebonnet Czar. . .as long as it pays good and has lots of benefits.;):D

Yep, rain daily now. Springs breaking out all over..... too wet to drive in pasture, work outside. Have seen this before.... kinda looking like it will be a wet fall/winter... tough on cattle when it's 35 degrees and wet/windy.

I know.... it's either too dry, too hot, too cold, too wet, too windy... seldom just right for a rancher:D

Then when it rains all the fire ants come out. It has been a full time job treating mounds. I am on my 4th bag in a month.

I've only treated 12 mounds in my own yard and 10 in my daughter's yard. We got about another two-thirds inch of rain today, so I expect to find more fire ant mounds. If you walk around in my neighborhood, you see the fire and mounds everywhere and I think a lot of my neighbors don't even try to do anything about them.

I got over an inch and a half more rain yesterday. Don't you know all this rain is disappointing to the folks working the State Fair of Texa in Dallas?

/ Here comes the RAIN !!! #372
If you believe the weather people, the State Fair may have more than rain to deal with tomorrow and Friday. This upcoming storm could also have wind and hail. Even so, I think I'd rather take my chances this time of year than earlier in August or even early September. Can you imagine how many heat related problems there would be in 90-100 degree weather?

Couple inches rain the other day... big thunder storm moving thru right now...heavy rain... too dark to know how much total yet... water gaps still washed out from recent 13 inch rain. There need to be more of me to fix stuff faster than it breaks:rolleyes::eek:

We keep hearing there is a "cold front" on its way throught Texas today. We have been waiting it seems like forever for even some cool weather. It was not the same trying to squirrel hunt this week with temps in the 90's. Even the squirrells were to hot to move around.

Any of you Texans north of us feel any of that cool air yet they keep talking about? We would even take the rain if it brought cool temps. Maybe the north winds will blow the skeeters out into the gulf.

The high tempurature on Wednesday was 71 degrees. Yesterday was in the low 80's. The forecast for the next five days his the high temps in the mid to high 70's. Summer ended here right around the beginning of September. We've been experiencing very mild temps since then with a few days that have been down right cold out. The kids and I have been wearing sweatshirts in the morning, while waiting for the bus. Allot of our days are reported to be ten degrees below normal!!!!

The storms kept missing us all week. Several days we had predictions from 60 to 80 percent that it was going to rain, and that those storms would be severe. Nothing happened. This morning, the storm that was predicted to be here yesterday afternoon, hit this morning. The current predictions are for rain all day and to expect one to 2 inches of rain with some isolated areas getting more. My ponds are both full and overflowing. Everything is saturated and whatever comes down is just going to run off. Flooding is expected if it rains like expected.

The NWS shows Denton at 52 degrees and sure enough, my own thermometer shows 51 on the patio. That's sure better than the 86 we had yesterday afternoon. I don't know whether we got enough wind to amount to anything during the night, but right now just a light north breeze. The NWS shows Denton's strongest winds at 21 gusting to 29 around 2-3 a.m. They also show Denton has gotten over two and two-thirds inches of rain. It's still too dark to be sure about my gauge and we're still getting a light rain, but I think I've gotten a couple of inches anyway.

It's light enough here at nearly 8 a.m. that I can see my rain gauge and it already has 2.5" and still raining.

Well it has passed us, I have just short of 2.75".

The rain we had was very heavy at times, so I should find allot of runoff hopefully in my pond. Looks like it might be a pleasant weekend, then another chance of rain next week.

At 9 PM last night, we had all the ceiling fans on and windows open, but it was still so muggy I was sitting on the couch sweating. I was ready to close up the house and turn on the AC just to get the humidity down. About 9:30, we suddenly felt a heavy breeze begin from out of the northwest and the temperature and humidity plummeted. By the time we went to bed at 10:30 PM, it was very cool and pleasant. This morning the temperature is 47 degrees and hasn't changed at all even though it's now 10:30 AM. Our raingage also shows we had 2.5" overnight. I suspect I'll have full ponds and a fuller lake because of 90% runoff, but I haven't ventured out to check things yet.

For those that are weary of me whining about the lack of runoff, thus far, we have received almost five-inches of rain this morning... I am a few miles North of Leander, between Georgetown and Burnet.... Can hardly wait to get to the ranch in Lampasas later today... This is good.... VERY good! BTW, current temp is 55 degrees... also good.. lol

Been raining hard here over the last couple of hours. The wind has now shifted out of the north. It has a hint of cool in the air.

I guess we will just see how cool it will get as tonight is high school football in Texas. No ice so I guess we are still going to the game, not that ice stopped us before. (we don't get much ice here on the gulf coast)
