Here comes the RAIN !!!

We got dumped on this last weekend. I kept expecting to see an ark float by. :)

/ Here comes the RAIN !!! #382
The National Weather Service had forecast rain for today "mostly after 1 p.m." and tonight. And the Dallas Morning News said the "Storms may dump up to 3 inches in Dallas-Fort Worth by Thursday".

Well, it was raining when I got up at 6 a.m. and other than perhaps one hour of the last 14, it's continued to rain, mostly rather light rain, but quite heavy the last hour or so. And my gauge is getting very close to the 4" mark. My neighborhood looks like a swamp.:D And since my gauge only goes to 5", I'm afraid if I don't go out there and empty it before I go to bed tonight, it may run over.:) Naturally, we're under a flash flood warning until 6 a.m. tomorrow.

Ditto here to Bird, I am just over 3.2" and its raining hard. After looking at the radar and the trajectory of this storm, we may double what we have in the next 4 hrs.

We've been getting warnings and 100% predictions for rain this afternoon, but so far, nothing. It did sprinkle a few times today, but from looking at the radar, it's staying just to the West of Tyler. If it slides East a bit, I should get some rain, but I'm actually hoping that it passes us by. Guess it's a wait and see game. The weathermen don't have a clue, and I'd bet are watching it just like I am to see what it does.

Eddie, I thought you'd be getting it by now. A little after 8 p.m., right after I posted that last message, it slacked up a bit so I went out and dumped about 3.85" of rain out of the gauge, and of course it's still raining. The good news is that our lakes in this immediate area, our sources of drinking water, are all full.

Well I'm over 5" now, the ground is saturated.

I drove to the low water crossing prior to the main road since we live on a dead end, yep 3' of rapids and logs over the road. Had to call my daughter who was coming home from work and send her to my brothers in town.

Minor inconvenience since we need to build up our water supply's, Just glad I caught her before she dove off in it..(one of them over protective dads i guess)

It started raining here around 4 AM yesterday morning and hasn't stopped since. It is raining now. We were up in the goat pens till 9 PM last night, had six kids born. I glanced at the gauge before coming back to the house and saw it was over 1.5 inches. It was a slow gentle rain all day and night.

The rain is coming down a little harder now and has been since midnight last night. Will check the guage again when I go up to check the goats after it get lighter outside.

State Drought Monitor We are still shown as abnormally dry. I doubt the chart reflects the past 24 hours' rain.

Well, I didn't quite get 5"; only 4.8" in about 25 hours. It started about 6 a.m. yesterday, was still raining at 6 a.m. today, but by 7 a.m. appeared to be all over.

We got 3.4" total. Not bad and good for our lake that needed another 24" to be at overflow. This may put the lake up as much as 12" since most of the 3.4" was runoff. I had one pond full and ready to overflow, so I'd bet that it both my ponds are full now.

Looks like it's about over here. I'm just over 3 inches, maybe 3.1 between my three rain gauges. I didn't need it, but since it was coming, I spread about half of a 50 pound sack of rye greass seed in my front yard and used the rest on my food plot. I don't know if the deer will eat it or not, but it's cheap and I figure it will at least look nice when everything else turns brown for winter.

I got another 4 inches. Drought officially over for me. Every cow track, trail, seep, low spot, spring, tank is now filled and overflowing continuously. I stocked my 3 small tanks today.

100 bass
100 cat
100 bluegills
4 lbs minnows

Now, to wait a few years for some fishing.

Well, I was wrong about the lake. It's full and overflowing. Both my ponds are full with one of them running into the other, and the 2nd one overflowing into the lake. Everything is completely topped off. Even my sinuses are full.

The rain guage read 3.6 inches yesterday AM. A chance of rain on Sunday is forecast. Both of the tanks are at overflow, first time in three years for the top tank. Had winds most all day yesterday and dried up a lot of the standing water. Things are good.
State Drought Monitor still shows western Bell County as abnormally dry when updated as of 22 October. Still, I'm happy.

Forecast is increasing for rain on Sunday night. It's gone for nothing on Wednesday, to 30% yesterday and then this morning, it's at 70 % chance for rain. It's too cool out for the mud to dry out, so whatever falls will just become runoff. Everything is full around here, so the threats of flood and related damage is becomeing pretty serious.

Hope that Sunday rain doesn't happen and/or happen early enough to mess up the Air Show. But we're going tomorrow instead of Sunday so the weather is looking good for us right now.

Last night on the news they said this is in the top "wettest" fall seasons on record for N Texas and I believe in the top 3 on record for October. It would have been nice to have alittle of this in the early summer.

/ Here comes the RAIN !!! #397
From yesterday morning's Dallas Morning News:

So far in October, Dallas has gotten about 6.5 inches of rain. That's more than double the monthly average, but nowhere near the record for the month, which was more than 14 inches in October 1981.

Of course, I'm few miles north of Dallas, but by my rain gauge, I figure I've gotten about 11.68" this October and 46.17" for the year. I think the "normal" or average for Dallas-Ft. Worth is 3.52" for October and 33.7" for the year.

Cooler temps are nice too.

Yes, I am enjoying the cooler temperatures. Yesterday started out at 40 degrees and quickly went up to a maximum of 75. But I got sun baked to a medium rare sitting and walking around in the sun on concrete at the Ft. Worth Alliance Air Show. It was a good show, but an incredibly big crowd.

And now we're going to be under a flash flood watch with a 90% chance of heavy rain tonight.

80% chance for heavy rain tonight, 100% for tomorrow and tomorrow night, and then 60% for rain on Tuesday. Then on Wednesday night, it's 50% for rain with Thursday up to 60%. This morning, it was about half those percentages, so something has happened to give them that much confidence that it's going to rain!!!!
