Here comes the RAIN !!!

It has quite raining temporarily here at my house, so I went out and dumped the rain gauge again. I figure that makes about 5.89" the last 5 days.:D

We ended up with 4.6 inches of the best kind of rain you can get. It was slow and steady over a four day period and soaked into the ground.
The county has lifted the burn ban. Read that as, say goodbye to some brush piles.
The next rain, whenever that comes, will all be runoff the ground is saturated.:D

I received another inch of rain yesterday afternoon, then another 3/4 of an inch last night. I'm over 6 3/4 inches for the three day period that started Friday evening. 4 inches of rain came down yesterday, hard and fast. I haven't seen Lake Marabou yet, but Alissa pond is flooded over and slowly draining down.

Yesterday morning, the forecaset for today was 40% for rain. Then last night it went up to 70% for rain today. This morning the forecast is at 100% for heavy rainfall. The radar is clear for my area right now, but the center of the low, which was right over Tyler and my area, has moved off to the East and a bit North. As the storms circle around the low area, they will bring those storms over us. It is what it is, but I'd be happy if we were done with rain for a few weeks.

Eddie, we have your 40% chance today and 20% tonight in the forecast; still cloudy but not raining. It appears to me as if it might be over for awhile. Already a number of people in my neighborhood out for their morning walks. Now I'm just wondering how long before it's dry enough to mow the yard.:D

After 5.1" here, my garden got a big gulp. Two days ago I put my waders on and went to the garden to find half my tomatoes (large and small) had exploded. I brought the larger ones inside to hopefully finish ripening, but I'm sure I'll lose a bunch of the rest because they will look like popped firecrackers.:rolleyes: On the bright side, my fall garden tomatoes, cantaloupes, and pumpkins are in heaven. They are growing by leaps and bounds. Also, my peppers and okra seem to like the extra moisture with no ill effects. I still have some puddles in my yard, so I won't be worried with mowing for a couple of days. Maybe the sun will come out and give us some nice mid-80s fall weather.:)

Next step is the fire ants. No matter how ant free your property appears to be, after a good rain, new mounds pop up. I just doctored 4 this morning.

When it rains, we have lots of puddles in the yard, but when it quits, they disappear pretty quickly. I guess you'd call this dirt sandy loam, but whatever it is, water soaks in fast. So the grass felt pretty dry this afternoon a little after 2 p.m. and I mowed, edged, and trimmed the yard. I was about 2/3 of the way through when the sun came out, so I was soaked with sweat when I finished. And I only found one more fire ant mound.

It's been raining off and on all day today. Ten minutes of rain, 20 minutes of clear, then rain again. Sometimes fairly hard, but mostly a light drizzle. In the last 12 hours, I have another quarter inch in my rain gauge for a 7 inch total since Friday night.

Good to hear so many are getting the right kind of rain. For me, so much rain means washed out fences across drainage areas, .I've got 3 that need repairing..... a neighbor has about .5 mile of fence washed out along the road...

I don't know if it's any kind of record, but it's now 7 days in a row that we've had rain. Day before yesterday I figure I only got about .01" but did get some rain. Yesterday, we had sprinkles almost continuously from 11 a.m. and by 9 p.m. only had about .09" in the gauge. But this morning, I just poured .30" of rain out of the gauge. And the forecast is for an 80% chance today. So that makes about 6.47" for the past week, plus .30" back on the second of the month.

If and when it rains here today, that will be seven days in a row for me as well. Yesterday it was quick, light showers that hit about every other hour. I have another .30 of an inch in my rain gauge. I'm getting real close to 7 1/2 inches since Friday.

We got a nice shower last evening as the cool front moved through. We didn't have the heavy downpour, lightening or winds that some in Fort Worth and Dallas got, but it was a nice shower with 1/2" of rain. I'm not sure if Bird got any rain at all because it looked to me like it went just south of his house as it moved into the metroplex. I think Eddie and TxDon are going to get some rain this morning. With the cooler weather, TxDon can have a ball layin' pavers at his new house.;)

We got really lucky in that we worked for about three hours yesterday in the yard. I pulled my aerator behind the Kawasaki Mule and got most of the 1/2 acre lawn well aerated. Then we put down 200 lb of fertilizer and seeded 100 lb of a mix of rye, fescue, bermuda, and buffalo grass seed. Less than 1/2 hr after we got everything put away, it started to rain. Our timing was perfect.:)

Yup, it looks like rain all day today. I received half an inch from the front that went across here last night without any obvious sign of runoff. I slept through it, so I don't know how it came down.

We got to hear quite a bit of thunder & lightning last night, even felt some mist in the air when I went outside, but not enough rain to measure at all. And just a light breeze, no real wind last night. And so far, just cloudy today.

The first day of fall has come and gone and it was 51.2 degrees here at 7:00 AM this morning. Is that cool or what?:)

Oh yes... we got another 1/4" of rain, so that's 3/4" to go along with the cool temperature. Very nice!

I hadn't even noticed that Fall was here. But before the day was over yesterday, I got about .08" of rain, and it was a cool pleasant day. This morning the NWS is showing our temperature at 55, but my thermometer shows 61. Either way, I figure it's wonderful!

Looks like another week of rain and more mud. Half an inch yesterday and another half an inch so far this morning with rain expected for the rest of the day. While I'm grateful for the rain since I just planted my food plots and overseaded my front pasture, it's impossible to get anything done with the land when it's muddy out. This time of the year it takes almost three days to dry out enough to really be able to get around on my roads. Anything sooner, and it's a game of seeing when you get stuck.

Yep, Eddie, I dumped just over a quarter inch (.27" maybe) out of my gauge a little after dark last night, and this morning found I had gotten just about an even inch overnight.

Since I seeded and fertilized just before the 1/4" of rain last weekend, this rain is coming just in time to give my yard a nice kick. I got 9/10" overnight. My bluebonnet project is just going bonkers with new plants also. Some of the little plants have as many as 4 or 5 branches with leaflets on the end of each. I even saw one standing 4" up off the ground. Fall rains will ensure I have plenty to brag about next spring.:D

Even we have gotten rain over the last 2-3 days. I loaded up the water barrels in the RTV Thursday night to haul water to the deer food plot over the weekend. Never even had to use them.
