Here comes the RAIN !!!

Last night there almost no bugs around the outside lights. The low this morning was 81 and I agree it looks more like winter than July.

I just looked at the central TX radar and it looks like a 100 mi wide swath south of Abilene to Austin, west to east as far as Bryan, is getting rain. That should help a lot of folks who've been gaspin' for a drink.

We received 1.1 inches, see posting #296, Thursday AM. The added and unxpected bonus came yesterday afternoon with a big light and sound show when we received another 1.9 inches. Our stock tanks have water again. Too late to save the catfish, unfortunately.

Great news, Lee. I hate it about your catfish. Too bad, it's like spraying water on a house after it's already burned to the ground. My ponds are down about 2' and our lake is down 3', but for this time of year, that isn't bad.

We just had a 1/4" downpour 10 minutes ago and the radar looks like there could be more heading our way. A nice shower on August 1st is a good omen. Last night I picked almost 2 gallons of big beautiful banana peppers and about a dozen tomatoes. All my pepper plants (7 bananas and 7 bell peppers) are about 3-1/2' tall and lush with green growth. I have one banana pepper plant with almost 40 peppers on it. I've never seen such success and healthy plants. These plants get about 8 hours of direct sunlight each day with the rest filtered through shade trees. Because I irrigate with soaker hoses, that seems to be the perfect combination. Even in all the 100 degree heat, they have not wilted as peppers often do. It is too muddy to pick okra this morning, so I may have lots of 4" and 5" pods instead of 2" and 3" ones before I get it picked. Yes, I said it's too muddy on August 1st. Unbelievable!:D

Glad to hear folks down south are finally getting a little rain. The rain last night and so far this morning has missed us, but it appears we may get some yet today.

Hang on Bird. I'm sending you some rain. It'll be there in about 15 or 20 minutes.;):D

Jim, I just made a quick trip up to downtown Denton and got into a real downpour, water running down the streets, etc., and got back home to a very light sprinkle, but I think I've gotten close to .05" so far; maybe more coming.

I'm happy to report 1.1-inches of rain on Thursday and Friday of this week... the first measurable rain we've had in two months...of course, for the next seven days, it's supposed to be over 100 degrees... <sigh>

/ Here comes the RAIN !!! #309
Well, we received 3 inches of rain Thursday and Friday. We have water in the stock tanks again. The total rainfall for July was 3.55 inches.

/ Here comes the RAIN !!! #310
I only got about 1.88" Thursday and none Friday, but that brought my July total to about 5.44", so we haven't been in as bad a shape as folks south of us.

/ Here comes the RAIN !!! #311
we received another 8/10's of an inch last night... just over 3-inches in three days.. not enough to put water in the stock tank but I'm not complaining.... No way.. lol

We just pulled in from vacation and have just under 2 1/2 inches in both rain gauges. My small pond is full and I'm real curious to see what Lake Marabou looks like. I'll go down there in the morning to see. Hard to believe that I have this much water in my ponds in August!!! Gotta say, I'm a happy camper.

you all need to share with central texas. I am in taylor and we got 1.5-2" a week or so ago and that has been it. I would say since May we have had 3". Lake travis only has one boat ramp left in the water and thnk they are now at an all time low or at least close to it. I know that will change real soon. We are buying 36 acres. and would like to see what the water is going to do on the land. It has some large wet weather creeks and a lot of run off but hope we can close and I can get some sort of roads put in so we can get on it if it starts to rain. Unfortunately not sure if I can get a tank put in soon enough.

With the way the land lays I have a front pasture that could build a very large tank. The issue will be if designing it with a spill way that does not cover the neighbors drive way up.

We have a small chance of rain but not to hope full.

Sure glad you made it home safely and I hope everyone enjoyed the trip. I can't help but agree with you on the rain. We haven't had the rains you have had, but we actually have green grass in August. It may brown out over the next couple of weeks if we don't get a shower, but for now I'm lovin' it.

Hard to believe, isn't it? I'm still mowing every 3 to 5 days, and have to do that today.

Bird, I meant other than my yard on the green grass. I water like crazy to keep my yard green and lush, but my whole place is green and growing. I need to get some good "retirement seat time" on my tractor to cut about 10 acres with the shredder. I had my ponds trimmed really well even around the water line for my July 4th picnic. The grass around them is now 2' high. That's a huge growth spurt for this late in the summer.

And, today, the rain CAME!!!

Best guess is 11 or so inches... between 9ish and 4ish. 15 inches about 10 miles north of me.

I have spent the last 3 weeks working on cleaning out two dry dirt tanks of my own and one of my neighbor's... All three had gotten to about 85% cleaned out .... some more details to be perfect, but basically in better shape than well... since 1961 when my neighbor's tank was built and never dry since.

All tanks now overflowing:eek:

Guess I'll get my next chance to clean them out in about another 50 years!

That's great. I had no idea anyone had gotten that much rain. We got about .43" last night, maybe another .03" this morning, and it appears that we have more coming, but I never thought about anything like 10" or 12".

Congratulations, that's allot of water!!!!! Glad to hear your tanks are full and that you were able to get as much done as you did.

The rain just started here about ten minutes ago, thunder and all!!!! It looks like wave after wave of storms are heading this way!!!!

We've been catching it off the Gulf, but only 2" the past few days. We've had only 3-1/2" since April. Pretty dry here also. We're about 9 miles out of town and they've probably had 10" to our 3-1/2". It's really been scattered this year.
