help with forum settings

I have trouble viewing the threads when I am logged in. I have set to linear oldest first, but when I click on a thread I end up somewhere in the middle of the thread.
When I am not logged in and click on a thread all is well, I can start reading from post #1 or the oldest. I would use the forum this way if it wasn't for that annoying registration/log-in window that keeps popping up every time you click on thread. no matter how many times you cancel it, it keeps coming back. What's up with that. Must be designed to keep lurkers away for some reason.
I probably don't have my settings right to view threads from starting with post#1.
Please help.

Your settings are fine.

When you click on a thread, the forum takes you to the first post you have not seen. If you finish reading a thread and go back to the list (directly, not with your back button...) then next time you click on that thread, it will take you to the first post.

If you want to start from the beginning of a thread you've already visited, try clicking the "page 1" instead of the title - not perfect, but works for me... Steve

If I go to a multi page thread I have never read sometimes it will start me out with post 1 then sometimes it will dump me off in the middle of the thread. I will just go with clicking on the page #.

Try using Firefox (browser) and install the "No Script" add-on....it will kill the obnoxious pop-up (and a lot more stuff you don't really want)...
