HELP! - What animal track is this!

That's either a Red Wolf, Gray Wolf or some hybrid. See how the claws are shaped, that and the size indicate wolf to me. What area if VA are you, any chance Reds from NC have migrated to the area from eastern NC?

I'd say big yote. The print with the claws sharpened turning in are the front feet.
Definitely needs a pedicure and a .270 round for a sleeping pill.
On loose sand or dirt prints will expand espeicially if animal jumps down from road down bank or something, lots of us have seen it many times with deer prints making deer appear larger at least in our minds.

That was my second guess. But there are no dogs that big in the area, and the stride was VERY short.

I was wondering if it could be a wolf or a badger...

Maybe the neighbors got a new dog I have not seen yet...

Saw your post in the "Good Morning" thread so came over here. I echo what others say about it likely being a dog. Although you say none of your neighbors have a dog large enough to make a track that big, I see stray mutts around here all the time.

I guess Lycanthropy isn't entirely out of the question. Any Gypsies in the area? Better stock up on silver bullets; be suspicious of any of your neighbors whose telephones go to voice mail during the full moon, and a walking cane with a silver head might be a good idea if you are out and about at night.

Mountain lions and black bears don't leave clar marks.

My two cents is that coyote prints are normally proportionally wider to the length. This print looks too elongated for a coyote to me. . . and too large.

Eddie, I know that you have hunted a bit by the heads that are in your shop, but i have seen wolf tracks larger than this one. Why do you say cats and bear don't leave clear tracks, see them all the time, also see them not so clear, depends on the ground their walking or running on.
