If it was the pump, it would probably be the charge pump. It mounts to the rear axle & "primes" the system. About a $1,500 job. The rear axle needs to come out to replace it.
Generally not the pump itself, the spline that drives it wears & eventually it just spins without catching.
Pump, drive gear, 2 bearings, some seals & O-rings. More time to do it than anything.
