Re: Help from all y\'all experts please

Rat,

I assumed that the Kubota best hydro claim was based upon reliability, I wasn't impressed when I drove them. I found them more jerky and whiney than NH, but that's my observation and not my brother's father's neighbor's friend who knew a gal who once dated a guy whose uncle drove a Kubota once. Personally I don't like NH's Supersteer; it just looks like a maintenance head-ache in the future. I'll leave JD out of this since my local dealer's pricing made them uncompetitive in my book.

Bobobro,

Looking at your land made me a little homesick for Texas, boy I sure do miss brick houses. Nice looking place. Anyway, I had 2.5 acres, that were in a similiar condition to yours. I had an old rider that I used for the first year until it died from the abuse. I bought an Ariens since it looked to be built better, and my misses still thought I was crazy for wanting a tractor. The Ariens and I suffered for 4 years until we moved up north and purchased 5 acres and a real tractor. The Ariens got stuck in the mud a number of times, but the good news is that with regular mowing those grass patches will fill in for the most part.

I shopped the big three plus Massey Ferguson driving the models that interested me, and comparing their specs. I made my choice based on my personal preferences, since not being a tractor guy, I didn't and to some degree still don't have any brand loyalty. I really liked the MF's, but I didn't like the dealers. I actually have two two MF dealers nearby. The local JD dealer chain thought their tractors were worth retail - maybe I looked like a sucker. I had several Kubota & NH dealers to choose from, and I selected the dealer based upon my own impressions and supported by reccommendations from the wise folks at TBN. Now the tough decision was that the dealer sold both Kubota & NH. The owner & the salesman neither would express any preference for either brand, claiming both of equal quality. I drove them both, & drove several different models of each. The NH won hands down for me, it had the best specs for my needs and it drove the best.

Now, here's something really strange, I will really like to encourage you to find a Kioti dealer and look at the CK20 Hydro. I know you said up front you don't want to look outside the big three, but I think that machine will answer the mail for you both in performance and price. If you do some reading in the Kioti section, you will see that TBNer's who own these machines generally hold them in high regard. Besides, it kind of looks like an orange boomer. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Big Dave,

Your tractor shopping experience was very similar to mine /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I looked at the Big 3,, although my big 3 is Massey, NH, and Deere. The Kioti CK20 does look like a orange boomer /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Re: Help from all y\'all experts please

Hey bobobro, I don't live all that far from you and have property a little further west, (Bellville, Texas in case the name did not give me away). I purchased my lawn mower (JD LX277) from the JD dealer you are currently talking to and really appreciated the way he dealt with me. I can honestly say it was a pleasure doing business with him.

As far as a tractor purchase, it is currently beyond my means, however...that has not stopped me from looking. If you get a chance go and visit

W. A. Virnau & Sons Inc.
1537 Hwy. 36 North
Sealy , TX, 77474
Phone: (979) 885-3549
Fax: (979) 885-6454

in Sealy and look at a Kubota B8700, I was quoted under $15,000.00 for the B8700 with FEL and box blade. I am by no means trying to make a recommendation of this tractor to a comparable JD model or NH, just offering some real world experience in your stated price range and, in your immediate area.

I wound up renting a tractor from these folks and enjoyed my dealings with them very much.

Best of luck with your new property and future tractor purchase.

Re: Help from all y\'all experts please

Jack, I'm reasonably sure you're talking about a B7800 instead of a B8700.

Hi neighbor! Thanks for the info. Did you buy your JD when it was Rice Belt Implement or after it was taken over by Brookside Equipment (sometime end of last year?)?

I just came across that Kubota dealer last night when I was looking at the Kubota web site, sounds like it's worth a trip out there, only a few miles further than Roach Kubota. Can I ask how long ago you where there and got that price quote? That tractor at that price would push it toward the top of the consideration list!

Re: Help from all y\'all experts please

I already jumped on once, but what the heck /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I would only recommend a 'secondary' brand like branson or century if you are quite certain you will keep the tractor a long time. Used 'big 3 or 4' tractors really hold their value well, and you can almost guarantee your way out from under a low hour machine if you need something different, money, moving etc. However these lesser known brands are a challenge to resell. I think careful negotiation can bring you a major brand rig for 15 large. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Re: Help from all y\'all experts please

Bird, you are absoulutely right, sorry for the typo, I did mean the B7800.

Bobobro, I got my lawn tactor back when the JD dealer was still Rice Belt Implement and dealt with the owner Bob, as I said before a real gentlemen.

As far as the Kubota, I got that quote two months ago. The salesman I dealt with was named Donny.

Hope this helps, and thanks Bird and Chrisjbell for the corretion on tractor models.

Re: Help from all y\'all experts please

Ok, I got to drive my neighbors Kubota L3000 around my property today. That thing drove like a Cadillac over the rough & bumpy areas of my field. I played a bit with the FEL and box blade. I found out from this test drive the L3000 is gonna be too big. It’s nice but a little too much for what I need. I also found those Ag R1 tires sure dig in and leave some tracks (it rained a little yesterday and the ground was slightly wet). It looks like the R4 tires would be a better choice for me.

Re: Help from all y\'all experts please

good u got to drive one, and good to know u realize that sometimes bigger is not better., u need to stay in the size range that is best for u 90% of the time

Re: Help from all y\'all experts please

If this one is too big, you should mark Branson and Century off your list because they're bigger.

Re: Help from all y\'all experts please

It's a few hours later and I used the L3000 to spread a couple of yards of mulch in the landscape beds around the house. What took me a couple of days with a shovel and cart I did in 90 minutes with the FEL!

The L3000 sure has some power and is nice, shifting from forward to reverse was a pain, I can see where a hydro would be nice.

I did leave a few "dents" in the front yard due to the wet ground, ag tires and weight of the 3000. Yep need to go smaller, more maneuverable and lighter weight.

I've only had my NH TC18 a little more than a week, so I'm hardly an expert. Worse, I didn't look at any other tractors other than New Holland - the dealer is so far above the others, there was never a doubt in my mind.

All I can tell you is that I got the TC18 with 4WD, Hydrostatic trans, 12LA FEL, 4' rear rotary cutter and 4' box blade for $14,800, so that fits your budget. The TC18, TC21 and TC24 all use the NH Class I Boomer frame which I think would fit your size requirments. Believe it or not, it was my dealer who told me that the 21 and the 24 are probably not worth the money unless you have a specific need for the extra horsepower. I have 20 hours on my little TC18 already, and have not come up with a single shortcoming. The loader lifts 750 pounds more than 7' high; the 3 PH lifts 1265# and pulls 4' implements without trouble; the steering radius is so tight it's like turning in a dime...you owe it to yourself to try this one out before making a decision.

Re: Help from all y\'all experts please

bobobro,

Setting with alittle over 2 acres. Steep hills to climb, no pond though /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif. I cut the side of a bridge very steep angle and very happy with the 28hp and the HST tranny.

Since dealers are close get them to bring equipment out to your property to try. My dealer did.

Re: Help from all y\'all experts please

Update - Went to the JD dealer grand opening today. They were packed! Talked to a factory rep and a salesman. Drove a 790 and 4000 and played with the loader on the 4000, looked at the 2210.

The salesman was steering me toward the 2210 with my 4 acres. 2210 with a 210 loader and JD 261 5' rear finish mower was $13,700. I am still thinking this is too small and want something a little bigger to go over the rougher areas of my property easier.

The factory rep was pointing me toward the 4000 series. Last years model 4000 with 410 loader and JD 261 5' rear finish mower & R4 tires was $16,550, this years model 4010 about $100 more and a Landpride 5' rear finish mower instead of the JD $500 less.

These prices seem a little high to me what do ya'll think? They seem like full list.

Also got a chance to see a Kubota 7500, 7800 and 2710 although the dealer was closed and the 7500 and 7800 were behind a fence I got to sit on the 2710 at least.

The 7500 looks close to the JD 4000/4010? The ergonomics on the JD seemed to have the Kubota beat in my opinion. I am pretty well decided on a hydro no matter which “color” I go, something I hadn’t thought of are my teenage cousins who love to cut my grass a hydro would be easier for them to use, while I sit back, drink a beer and watch /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif.

Opinions requested from owners of these models and other experts please........

Re: Help from all y\'all experts please

In reference to the prior post regarding JD dealer pricing:

I finally saw the FEL and cutter pricing area on the JD website, adding it up and the dealer is pricing the package about $500 OVER the suggested list price. They think that highly of their tractors?

Re: Help from all y\'all experts please

Went to the local Kubota today!

Sales manager wanted to put me on a BX2200 at first, but I want something bigger. Sales manager was great explained the differences from the 2200 up to the 2910 and gave me prices on all listed below. These prices seem good, especially in comparison to the full list the JD dealer wanted.

B2900HSD $13295
B2700HSD $12095
FEL for 2900/2700 $3095

B2410HSD $11395
FEL $2995

B7500HSD $9795
FEL $2695

BX2200 $8895
FEL $2395

Landpride 5’ rear finish mower $1695

Looks like I can get a whole lot more orange bang for the buck than I can green.

That was definitely the case in my area, but apparently it can be the other way around in some parts of the country.

Re: Help from all y\'all experts please

In my area orange was the most expensive with John Deere within a few hundred dollars. But New Holland was around a Grand less. Again that is just this area or it even could have been just a dealer that wanted to move a few tractors or so.

bobobro maybe if your set on orange which it seems like you are you could post your quotes in the orange section and get some ideas from the experts on the Kubota. It is a good tractor and if you feel good about it along with the dealer then my recomendations is to go orange.

just my 2 cents
