The problem with HHO is that dealers know where it's going to be burnt and some add in things like old oil and other stuff they would have to get rid of. If you ever look into the bottom of a 5 gallon can of HHO some will be a nice red color while other times it will look almost black. After draining the fluid out you'll see sludge in the bottom of the can.

I use to run HHO in by dozer and BH, did it years without problems. A number of homes around hear were being converted to natural gas and people give it away free because the gas company doesn't drain or remove your tank. Since I have a pump it only takes a few minutes and I can transfer it into 55 gallon drums. I often would have too much to use in the house so into the equipment it went.

Last spring I ran out and when filling the tanks at the house I asked him to fill a 55 gallon drum. He asked what it was for, once told if was for equipment he said he couldn't sell me HHO but he had both on the truck. He said the only difference was they added a lubricant to the HHO (because of the low sulfur he thought). He reeled up one hose and went to the other side of the truck and filled the drum. He charged me the same amount so I doubt he would have went through all the work of switching hoses just for show.

Thanks for the responses. I'm still scratching my head over it. Never heard of the limp home mode Rick, but I wouldn't be surprized..
Never heard of anyone but big rigs getting fuel checked around here, wouldn't want to be the one.

Back in the day, Say 40 or 50 years ago, no.1 diesel or kerosene, which looks like clear water, was the preferred fuel for use in large (say above 500KW) stationary diesel generator sets. The theory was that kerosene stored in large tanks for years was less subject to algae and other contaminants than no.2 diesel. Whether or not that is true is also debatable. The engines ran great on the stuff.

However, in recent years some of the major diesel engine manufacturers have threatened to not honor the engine's warranty if the engine fails while under warranty and if kerosene is the fuel being used. On road or off road no. 2 diesel is not an issue as far as the engine warranty is concerned. They tell me modern diesels need the additives in no. 2 diesel fuel.

My brother works for a NAPA. They had some "damaged" ATF they could not sell (mostly old looking labels that made the product look bad)

We added 4 qts of the ATF when we put 5 gals of diesel in the tractor. Never had a problem.

I just wonder if there was not some other issue with the HHO? How old was it?

As for the limp home mode its very common on the Dmax. I only had it happen once on my 05 but my neighbor has had it happen twice on his 07. Its really a good thing. The motor and tranny is so smart it knows to protect itself.

It was being used in the boiler n/p.. we installed an above ground tank for them. Didn't suck it off the bottom or anything..

The stuff from the gas station is the same thing.
