Heat

It's actually been mild for July. No 100 degree days yet. It's still hot and humid. Heat is much easier to deal with. It was hotter when we lived in Vegas, but the humidity stayed under 45% even at its worst. Here it's rarely less than 50% in the summer.

We got some rain today, so it was cooler this evening, but that water will be hanging in the air for a few days.

I'm probably repeating myself. I've learned that the secret to working outdoors in Summer is to get started in the morning when the temps are still nice. Then as the day warms up, it's not a huge shock, and you can deal with it.

If I'm indoors all morning and then go out to do something, the heat hits me hard and it's just about overwhelming. Even if it's the same temps as the day before, when I was outside all day, I can't deal with it if I haven't been outside when it was cooler.

I think it's similar to warming up a pot of water with the frog in it. It happens slowly and you don't realize that you are boiling to death. LOL

I can get over heated really fast. For me, I find a wet bandana around my neck can make a huge difference. I'll periodically re-wet it in a water trough or some other source.

High Relative Humidity is my biggest problem now in the operating rooms… 20-60% is my range and no surgery can start outside this range.

My readings with the new HVAC are consistently 57-60%

Contractor has been trying all kinds of things with little success.

68F is ideal operating room temp so warming the room not an option.

The old system was always plus or minus 50% RH

When I worked down in the Coachella Valley, we would start concrete pours at midnight when the temperature finally dropped below 100!

I have no idea how landscapers, roofers and paving crews work in the day time.

The hottest I’ve seen down there was 126*.

I was reroofing in 103 temp and downed a gallon of Gatorade by 1 pm…

Drink, drink, drink and cover up…

It takes a special kind of person to work in paving in extreme temp.

I started by doing tear-off, then got 'promoted' to paper roller doing flat hot-tar roofing in Louisiana for about 5 years...but that was 45 years ago! Lafayette, Monroe, Baton Rouge, New Orleans...

In the summer we were on the roof by sun-up...and the secret was to not climb off the roof till quitting time. If you went off the roof at lunch, it was nearly impossible to struggle back up the ladder...
