Heat pump/ furnace question

Theres two easy ways to tell when your gas furnace is running, one is to go outside where the exhaust is, you should see and hear the exhaust. These new high efficiency gas furnaces use a blower to help in exhausting and you should hear it when it's running. Mine sounds like a turbo.

The 2nd is to look into the furnace to see if the burners are burning blue flames. My Carrier unit has a sight glass to observe the burners and I'd say your Trane does too. You may have to open the front access panel to see it.

I saw your other post about this problem and made a few suggestions in that thread. You definitely want the installing dealer to come back out as it doesn't seem to be running correctly.
I believe these dual fuel heatpumps are new to many HVAC dealers and they're learning as they go. My dealer didn't know that the setting for when the aux heat comes on can be adjusted. I was told it wasn't adjustable.
My problem was similar to yours in that I felt my gas furnace was running too much and burning way to much of that expensive natural gas. (it's gone up by 50% this winter)
Since I downloaded a manual from the manufacturers website and changed some programs , my heatpump has been doing the vast majority of heating with very little help from the furnace.

Thanks for both of your replies... I'll be calling the installer on Monday. I'm pretty sure the setup for the dual fuel h/p gas furnace is new to most of these folks as well. With some fine tuning I think this will work out. The installer is a Trane dealer so I'm confident they will do everything possible to get things working right. When I find out what fixed the problem, I'll post it to this forum. Once again, thanks for taking the time and sharing your suggestions.
