Heat index contest

This is NOT a contest I wish to win. Just Say'n. :confused3::laughing::laughing::laughing:

We have been pretty lucky this summer with only a few days in the upper 90's and I am sure the heat index was over 100. Seen much worse.

Later,

One of my pet peeves is when people overstate the humidity for dramatic effect. For example people often talk about 90 degrees with 90% humidity in the south. That would be a heat index of 122 and while it may very rarely happen it is NOT as common in the south as people like to say, and when it does happen people literally die.

What we typically see is more like 90 degrees with 60% humidity. No need to exaggerate, that's uncomfortable enough! Now people may be confused because it is often 90+ degrees and 90% humidity here during the same day, but not at the same time! A typical steamy day is 70/100 in the early morning with a high of 95/60 (which is still an HI of 110!). Looking at the history of my weather station, my highest recorded heat index value is 124. That would be 55% humidity at the highest temp I've seen (101 degrees). That's hot enough!

That's why I like to see people talk about heat index and not temp/humidity.

High today was 98. Dew point reached 82. Heat index on my weather station was 123. Highest I've ever seen on it was 124. That day was over 100 for a high.
Here's a picture of it. Look at daily records in bottom right corner.

Down here in the deep south, we have very high humidity which results in high dewpoints and very uncomfortable weather. What kind of 'heat index' do you have in your area?]

Depends on what you consider South.

It's winter here and there was a wee bit of frost this morning. Right now it's 15c with 49% humidity.

We are normally so dry here that our "heat index" is not influenced by humidity. The temps you see on your thermometer is what you get.

However, that being said, this is, so far, the driest year of record for this part of the country. This morning at 6:30 our humidity was 12%.

Isn't that kind of low humidity a wildfire hazard?

Country Geek - I guess so - the forrest service folks say our wildfire "danger time" started a month earlier than normal this year. I know the extreme low humidity sure messes with my sinuses. It also seems to cause the breezes to put more crud into the air.

The good news is we had a very short burst of rain last night and this morning our humidity is back to normal - 52%.

I've experienced high humidity once - Houston in July - and I'll take the extreme temps and low humidity we get for a week or two over than anytime.

This year - first week of July - we saw the highest temps - 105 - ever recorded for this area. I spent two days camped in the bedroom with the window air conditioner.
