That is cheap for a NH 451 sicklebar mower. A good one will sell at auction here for $2200-3000. That is a NH256 not a 56. A NH256 is worth $1,000-1500 more than a 56.flusher said:Some of those prices are just plain goofy. $2050 for an old sicklebar mower? $2300 for a pretty beat up side delivery rake? Get serious. Mowers like that sell on eBay for well under $1K and similar rakes like NH 56's sell for under $700.

Yes it was. I was monitioring it on Ebay to say what the bids were.chh said:Is that the Quarrick auction? They list a lot of stuff on ebay in addition to the auction.
chh said:I didn't word that right. I meant in the regular ebay format in addition to this auction. They do this deal along with their regular auction a couple of times a year. I never have tracked the action prices from them though. Good job of organizing it mark.r
When a NH256 rake is on Ebay you do not get to shake the end rotors or the wheels to see how much wear there is. I've seen many 56's listed as 256's and many customers do not know the difference. Also realize the logistics of moving a NH 256 any distance can be expensive.flusher said:I've seen NH 256's as low as $800 on eBay during the past 6 months. The highest I've seen for this rake was $1400.
Slippy said:Well all...thought I would post a follow-up since I have now baled about 500 5x4 round bales with my equipment many of you helped me decide on.
So far, it has been pretty good, no real problems. Still learning some things about the equipment.
As far as the tractors, they have worked fine. The cab IH 1086 pulls the vermeer 840 conditioner mower with out any problems. It was without question a great choice for what I am doing.
I pull the Vermeer Rebel 5410 baler with the Mahindra 6000 and it has done just as well. It is very economical to run. I raked and baled about 120 bales the other day on less than 1/2 tank of fuel.
We have been switching off on the raking between the two tractors. Cab with air is nice on those really hot days.
Have had a few adjustments to learn on the net wrap on the baler getting it to run smooth as the role gets toward the end, but think I have that resolved now.
Grease and maintenance, wow...bought an electric grease gun due to all the greasing I am now doing.
The rake has worked great as well. Not sure I need such a big rake due to the thickness of my grass. We have the rake pulled in all the way and it picks up two mowed rows, and thats plenty of grass for the baler. If we do a second cut, the wider options will be helpful.
No regreats on any of the purchases and the dealer for my products has been great.
Still learning how to better cut and rake. Any one have any suggestions on that I am open. Have done the counter clock wise around the outside first, then start clock wise. Problem is when I get to the middle, too may small sharp turns. Raking is the same as well. Would like to see a really good video of some methods if anyone knows where I could find one.
Again, my thanks to all of you who participated. My sons are learning a lot as am I. All of the equipment has done very well and matched up great. Now we just have to move and sell the stuff.
