Have a 3320 vs. 4120 question

Perhaps you are really making an argument about axle capacity. Here the 4120 shines with a great excess of capacity relative to the E series.

Excess to some; necessary to others.

"Strain" is not a valid reason for chosing among these tractors for the average user. In fact, it is a difficult idea to prove at all in these discussions.

Depends on what you consider the "average user".
The FEL's on the 3032 and the 3038 will run out of arse before the FEL on the 4x20 series even breaks a sweat.

Tim

Strain may not be the best choice of wording to use in this context, however, I think it's clear the capability of the 4000 series tractors is superior to the 3032 or the 3038 (and yes even my 3320) especially when you consider loader capacity, hitch lift capacity and PTO HP.

But that's not the issue Nitro-Fish. Of course a larger tractor has more of certain capacities. How much tractor does a man need for 7 acres, for the 4 - 6' implements listed by DennisH, for maybe 30 - 60 hours use per year? Maybe 100 hours? The 4120 of the OP's question will power those implements, so will a 6000 series. So will a smaller, durable, far cheaper tractor.

As big of a tractor that he can fit without the Mrs. objecting?

That's right! except for the Mrs. objecting of course, the Mrs. op
inion is limited when it comes to OPE around here!

msmud; it seems you may fall into the "without the Mrs. objecting" catergory, I'm not sure where you get your 30-60 hour use per year figure from; perhaps you have purchased a "parade tractor". I took delivery of my 3320 at the end of March 2010, I already have 102 hours on the machine, maybe I'm missing something, but I bought my tractor to use it, not say I have one! I take care of just 5.5 acres with it, but mine is definately not for show; it works almost daily, I bought the most tractor I was willing to pay for at the time of purchase, and yes, time is money; my 790 use to perform every task I ask of the 3320 (with the exception of some of the loader capacity work) only not quite as efficiently. I am not retired and thus do not have all the time in the world to take care of my little piece of dirt, therefore I like to do it efficiently. I'm simply implying that any tractor is capable of completing a specific operation, however; when given the opportunity, the larger machine (if not too big to be practical) will perform the task more efficiently. If you still don't understand, I welcome you to VA to perform the same operations with your 3038E (thats right; your more HP both PTO and engine, however less lift capacity both in the FEL and 3 pt) that I perform with my 3320 300CX and lets see which is more efficient (keeping in mind that the original topic of this post was the comparison of the 3000 series to the 4000 series which has even more capacity to the 3000 in every way), I'll bet I'm at the dinner table before you;.......oh wait, maybe my wording is wrong again, perhaps more efficent is not the correct terminology to use in this instance. I guess what i am trying to say is I can move more weight each time with my 3320 than is achievable with a 3038, and the 4000 series can move more weight than my 3000 series; there is no comparison; if you can accomodate the 4000 series it is superior in every way compared to the 3000 series. I suggest you open another thread with the topic of "what is the most efficient trator for the size and price" tiltle if you would like to continue the banter on this topic; it is obvious the OP has determined the 3320 is the most appropriate size tractor for his needs.
