I posted this on another forum as well but I just had to share how well the truck did hauling 21K of hay and 6K of trailer.....my truck is a srw but it hauled the 27K really well, for ag (at least what I was told) you can have up to 10K per axle including the trucks rear axle anyhow here's a pic

I guess if you stay off the roads with that overweight load you're OK. You'd get pulled over and ticketed in a heartbeat in my neck of the woods with that load.

This is what some of the loads I haul look like. If the F-450 won't haul it my '59 White will. I asked a few state troopers and sheriff's deputies about large hay loads and as long as it is for ag use they won't stop you. I've been passed by several troopers and they don't take a second look. Weight-wise I'm okay, just overwidth by about a foot.

the truck has the 496 with the allison....while not a diesel I was very pleased with it's performance.....while I've seen others pull this kind of weight before it's the first time I've done it (this is the first winter for me to have cows).

Ive heard good things about the big block but I dont know if i would want to put gas in it.same with the 6.0liter i love them but im glad i got the Dmax great for plowing.Very nice truck though id like to get a 3500 ext cab long bed one day.

Its really too bad GM dropped the big block a few years back. I feel they did this to force you into a diesel if you want to really work the truck. While this made the lost of money in the short term it will probably hurt them in the long run. Too many problems and low mpg with the new diesels will send some loyal customers looking at Ford or Dodge for a large gas engine.

You just might want to ask for a few more opinions on going up to 10k per axle including a single tired pickup. AG or not, without getting into axle weights, I know of no state that legally allows going over the tire load ratings.

well number one the diesel out sold the 8.1 buy a huge margin from everything ive read and number two the Dmax lmm is getting the best MPGs out of the bunch.

I realize the diesel in any of the big 3 is a huge improvement over the gas counterpart but the cost is also way out there. I am a diesel fan, have 2 currently and looking for a possible third. The thing is the only real big gas engine left is the Ford V-10. Its a steal as a $600 option over the base V-8. To jump to the diesel its nearly another $8,000. If I were towing just a few times a year and my loads were 10k to say 15k I would really look at saving the upfront cost and getting a large gasser. You can buy a lot of gas with that 8k you saved and just live with the 12 mpg.

Me too. Have an F350 now, likely a Jetta TDI coming soon, and either a Benz CDI or a BMW X5d in the distant future. I'd love to see the diesel choices here that are available in Europe - Audi's, BMW's, minivans, etc....

Yea, I have owned 4 Diesels. I started off with a 1999 F350 SRW 4x4 then a 2004 Ford F-250 4x4 followed by a 2005 GM 3500 SRW and finally a 2006 F-350 4x4. I had the 99 Ford up until November of last year when a deer did it in. The Dmax I traded for the 2006 F-350 4x4 in 2005.

I am not planning on buying another for a few years unless its another 7.3L 4x4 for my hired hand at the lake. He loves the 7.3 the best and I have to say even though it was not much on HP, it had great torque and all we ever did to it was brakes, tires, ball joints, tie rod ends, and a CP sensor which the 7.3 is notorious for.

it's singles and yes I wish I would of bought the duals....the guy I got the hay from wanted to put another bail on the neck of the trailer! yes the trailer and the truck are over loaded by there gvwr but comared to what these farms do on a daily basis is with smaller trailers this is nothing.
