Hanging Trailer Chains

...by the way... why are you changing safety chains? never seen it done unless the trailer was in a crash. Just curious.

Now... on with our lives.

I'm replacing an underbuilt tongue along with about half the rest of the trailer.

How do you think that set up would do if the chains were needed? Would it twist those tabs? I wonder if rotating that bolt 90 degrees would be better.

How about using 1/4" or even 3/8" thick angle iron for the tabs? That way you cover both axes with one structural shape.

Here's what I came up with considering all the input from this thread. Using the angle and the clevises seemed like a good combination. Now I just need to get some chain.
