Handy bicycle wheel yard cart

I have a bicycle wheel yard cart that I got from my dad when he passed away 15 years ago. He had it for probably 15 years before that. It is one of the handiest tools you can use if you have a yard of any size. It is nicely balanced and can haul quite a bit in both size and weight. I use mine to bring firewood from the pile to the house in winter and for various yard chores the rest of the year. There is one currently on sale at Northern Tool if anyone is interested. I give it a thumbs up. :thumbsup:

My Dad still has his. He bought it in the 70's, i remember how impressed i was at the ease it could carry a large load.:thumbsup:

The large diameter wheels make them easy to roll and manuver. I've had several over the years. Now I have the big Rubbermaid one from Home Depot. Worth every penny.

The plywood did rot out in mine, but like I said, it was somewhere over 15 years old minimum. I just bought one sheet of pressure treated, layed the old pieces on it for a pattern, traced it out, cut it out and rebuilt it in an afternoon. Going strong again. :thumbsup:

Ditto with my Dads. I think this might be the third iteration or maybe i should say, reincarnation, cause i had to weld a new bike wheel on after he snapped it off on something.

I built one several years ago as a pull behind for a garden tractor. Now I use it mostly in the fall to put leaves in as I have far more than will fit in the recycle cart. Sometimes it takes until mid-January to get them all shifted out. All built from scrounged free material, sheeting is 22ga. galvanized roofing.

Ha! Mine rottted out too. I haven't rebuilt it yet, but I agree it's a great design.

We use the Rubbermaid ones at the marina where we keep the boat. They don't rust out like the old ones in the salt air. I have an old one, not Rubbermaid, that I got from my father years ago, and have replaced the plywood a couple of times, replaced the tires and tubes as well as repainting, still serves well for fire wood and other tasks that are not worth breaking out the tractor and trailer to do. And I also oil the hubs once and a while, as it keeps the bearings free.

I worked for a neighbor a few years ago doing property maintenance and he had one of those carts. Worked pretty well.

He did not have a tractor or anything like that, so he used that cart for EVERYTHING.

One of the problems with tractors is it saves you enough time in physical labor that you now have time to work out doing physical labor to get back in shape from not doing any physical labor since you bought your labor saving tractor. :confused3:

I bought one like that from the same outfit about 15-20 years ago. I was disappointed in it. The dimensions were given, but I didn't realize how small it really was until I got it. The quality of construction was not what I expected, either. It fell apart within a couple of years. Maybe this is an improved version. Flyerdan's cart looks much better.
