I picked up a Char-Lynn 101 series hydraulic motor recently.
Described as "removed from working machinery".

When turning the output shaft by hand, there is a harsh "notchiness" in the motion.

Normal? Or a door stop?

I've never had occasion to handle a motor of this type.

All the ones I've spun by hand feel that way a little bit. They certainly will NOT spin like an electric motor with good bearings!

OK

Thanks for the perspective.

I plan to run the motor before fabing up mounts etc for the application. But I really didn't want to include "Fragmentation Protection" (filtration) in the test set up. ;-)

I agree. Perfectly normal.

Dang, the internet is a wonderful thing, I had the exact same question I was going to ask about a replacement motor for a VMC brush cutter I have.
Hard to turn and feels like turning a very stiff ball bearing that someone took a hammer to.
