If you had an SDS, you would only be using one had, and you wouldn't have to put any weight on it. The drill does all the work.

Yup, but for the amount I need it, it's hard to justify the expense.

Yes, but I've spent 150k on this shop in the past 3 years, for me to putz around in the evenings and weekends for the next 40 years. And my wife is getting a little tired of my 'excessive' spending, as she puts it.

I had hammer drills before buying the SDS, and they are horrible. Easily the worse things ever for drilling concrete. If you haven't used a SDS, it's impossible to describe the difference. The best I can come up with is putting a nail into butter compared to putting it into a 2x4. It's just so fast and easy with a SDS.

I have a corded Rigid drill with a 'hammer drill' function. It's OK for some medium drilling and I mainly used it for wood - without the 'hammer' of course.

I decided I needed a SDS hammer drill to bust up some concrete around a drain pipe. I went to HD intending to buy a Bosch Bulldog. They had a Hilti TE6-C on clearance for the same price so I got it. Fantastic!

I do wish I had a SDS Max so I could use one of those little shovel bits. With the limestone we have in Central Texas those things work extremely well on fence post holes. When I need to replace my fence I'll have an excuse to buy one.
