GT3235 Stuck Throttle

All,
I have been having a reoccuring issue that has finally become permanent. In the past when I would throttle down my GT 3235 while mowing (for what ever reason) and then try to throttle back up the lever would go but the engine would stay in low. If I stopped and started the engine it would be fine. Well the "reboot" finally quit working and it is now stuck in low. I popped the hood and the cable is fine as is the linkage on the top. My dealer cant get to it for at least a week (if I bring it in - Cub won't pay for transport during warranty work he says). Any suggestions? I am going to open it up more tonight and see if maybe it just needs some carb cleaner or if the float is stuck.

A problem like you're describing wouldn't be caused by the float sticking or anything internal in the carburetor. It sounds like something is wrong in the throttle/governor linkage. The throttle sets the maximum speed and the governor actually controls the engine speed. It's kind of a complicated mechanism and hard to describe without you actually looking at it. Perhaps if you examine it and see what moves with the throttle cable and what you have to move to increase the engine speed, you might find something that is binding or sticking.

Yep, the governor linkage is probably dirty and binding, it explains itself once you look at it, it's a bunch of links and springs that probably just need to be cleaned up real good. Especially look at where the governer arm goes into the engine itself- this area sometimes mists a bit of oil that attracts dirt, and may bind. Spray carb cleaner like Gumout will free it up. Hopefully this will save you a repair bill at the dealer /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
