Just fried some hot sausage in the pan... a bit of toast and hit the side of the old Griswald skillet with two eggs... nothing like cracking two eggs on the side of a hot griswald skillet on a cold night!

I'm partial to Lodge myself, but not their new-fangled pre-seasoned stuff. Is this the start of the cast iron color war?

I have a lot of cast iron cookware, most was from my grandmother. I figured she lived 92 years cooking with the same iron pans, then that was good enough for me too. I rarely use the coated non stick pans anymore. I have a great waffle maker, griswald about 1905, works great on the stove or campfire.

When I graduated from HS in 1973, my sister give me a cast iron skilled for a gift... I thought that was odd... Today, it is the best skillet I have (10"). Griswald (8") was a freebee from end of the day garage sale!

My mother always baked her cornbread in a cast iron skillet in the oven, but we use the cheaper, lighter cookware. However, we had an assortment of cast iron cookware; skillets of different sizes, dutch oven, etc. that we gave away when we became full time RVers. The weight of those things adds up fast. Anyway, we never got back to an assortment of cast iron; only have one Benjamin & Medwin 11.5" ribbed cast iron skillet. I had to have that because I like that Cajun blackened fish and cast iron outdoors is the only way to do that properly.:D

You have a pan from none other than Clark Griswald? ;)

Actually, I think those old iron skillets were manuafactured right here in the Erie, PA area.

Am I correct Penn State Behrend Tom? (another local who posts here.)

My favorite dessert is a pineapple upside down cake baked in a 14" Wagner cast iron skillet. It will will just about break your wrist turning it over to turn out the cake.

Wagner bought out Griswold in 1957 by the way.

My weekend biscuits are baked in a cast iron biscuit form, taste great. I also like cornbread baked in a cast iron skillet, it is very, very good

We now have a smooth top range so can only use cast iron ware in the oven but that is what SWMBO wanted.
