Mowing Grinding Noise

When I push the lever down to engage the blades and also pulling lever up to disengage, there is a grinding noise. The noise is not there while mowing and does not interfere with mowing, it only grinds for about 2-3 seconds each movement of the lever. Anybody have ideas what I am facing here?

are you engaging blades at a higher rpm? if so try low engine speed, hopefully will hellp

I tried on the lowest rpm, it still was grinding, but at a lower decibel and for a shorter time. It sounds like gears in a bind and then releasing.

is this on a zt or bx belly? hopefully not a pto clutch wear issue.

Have you checked for lube in the mower gearbox?

While checking the oil in the gearbox, hopefully you have lubed all the points on the deck and both ujoints on the pto axle?
