Hi,

Just found this forum last night & stayed up way too late reading & reading! There is a lot of great information here!

I'm moving up from my JD770 (I've had it about 14 years) & buying a 4310. I originally decided on the epowerereverser, but after driving the eHydro, I think I need to change my mind on the transmission. I've only got 20 acres, do a lot of mowing, bucked work around the barn, plow & rototill the garden, etc.

Anyone have any comments on my choice of transmissions? Any other advice on this purchase??

This will probably be the last tractor I buy, & I don't want to compromise if I don't have to...if I can afford everything!

I've been given the following quote:

JD4310 4WD with eHydro & R4 tires: $16,586

JD430 Loader with 61" bucket $ 3,100

Total: $19,686

I know there are people who don't like hydros, guess that is why they continue to offer both. For me after having a hydro I can't imagine that I would ever buy a tractor without it.

Bothe have their place."Get whats makes you happy". That's what is important.

Rationalizations for choice can come later.

Hi. I think you are on target with machine and price.

You might consider a Heavy Duty bucket, the std. one might be just fine, but best to decide up front. I have the std. one, I hope its ok. jd does offer a replaceable blade...

Welcome to the TBN forums Bob.

I have a JD4710 with eHydro. If you are planning to do a lot of FEL work or any other operation that requires constant forward and backing up, I'd suggest eHydro. It's a real pleasure to have this transmission and if you are looking for a tractor for the rest of your life this may be worth the extra money. I've not regretted getting this option since I bought my 4710 about a year ago. It's well worth the money and I wouldn't go with anything else.

Question on the hydro; Can you put the tractor in some kind of neutral mode? I'm asking becuse on my gear tractor I put it into neutral (on flat ground) when hooking up implements and then I can rock the tires back and forth to get the pins to align (instead of beating on them with a hammer).

No...there's no neutral mode on the eHydro. On level terrain there isn't a real need for it since it tends to stay stationary with rolling resistance provided by the eHydro transmission and my bar tires. On sloped terrain, there will be slight backward or forward motion and in this case I apply the parking brakes. When hooking up implements I back up to the attachment's 3PH connections to the point where I can utilize my telescoping draft link ends and hydraulic top tilt. These two latter components of the tractor's 3PH make hitching up real easy and I'd recommend their purchase and installation. Hook up can be achieved in a few minutes or less without pulling and yanking the implement around on the ground.....real back saver these are. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Uh, Rancar!

My JD 4610 eHydro has a neutral range. Before I got the telescoping links, I had to put it in nuetral to move the tractor by hand.

Thanks everyone for all of your help!! I ordered the eHydro today...all I have to do now is try to wait PATIENTLY for it to arrive! (I'm not sure how patient I will be!!)

Yes....neutral on the transmission range shift lever. eHydro has A, B, C ranges plus N for neutral. But, when I use my tractor I always have it shifted in one of the speed ranges A, B, or C. When I stop, sometimes on an incline, I can't shift into N until I get to level ground. Even on level ground, I don't bother shifting into N since the tractor doesn't go anywhere. It remains in a stationary position. That's why I said I just apply the parking brakes no matter what operating range I may be in.

More important question though is how do you move a 3,500lb tractor by hand? I struggle with moving my JD 425 lawn tractor which is an 800lb machine. Isn't it easier just yanking around the implement than moving a tractor by hand?

I see what you meant now Bob, on the neutral thing.

It's relatively easy to move the tractor by hand, on a concrete slab. I only had to move it maybe an inch +/- one way or the other. Now that I have the telescoping links I don't have to do that now.

OK....thanks. Come to think of it, when I have my 4710 parked in the garage I notice how easy it is to jog it a few inches when it sits on the concrete floor. Outside on dirt....well, that's a different story altogether. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Welcome Bob! I love my 4310, (same setup your looking at).

TO HOOK UP 3 POINT STUFF:
Just point your FEL bucket edge in the dirt, idle engine, and use the joystick to rock tractor an inch or so back and forth. You can reach the joystick easily and it sure beats struggling to "roll" by hand.
BE SURE TO TURN OFF MOTOR TO HOOK UP PTO
