JaimesEarl,

I personally think you made a good decision. You will be happy with the BX2200 and it will do the job for you. One thing you have to do when you get it is post some pictures. Even though we have all seen the BX2200 it is much better seeing yours.

Congradulations

Congrats on the decision. I'm sure you will love the unit. If you are getting a FEL for the unit, then that 6x10 trailer is probably going to be a little too small. I currently have a 6x10 and it is too tight with the FEL on, I have to position the FEL onto the rear gate up in the air which doesn't allow for a good angle to tie down on the rear (I back it in) as the rear is only inches from the front of the trailer so that weight is distributed correctly.

Of course if your not getting a FEL, then it will be a perfect trailer.......I hate the idea of getting rid of mine for a larger one, cuz I love that size trailer for most things.

I attached a picture so you can see how I have to load mine.

Good luck,

Nice looking setup. I was going to try and squeeze my BX22 without the Backhoe into my 5x8 trailer. I don't think it is going to fit. I think I may opt for a bigger trailer with dual wheels and brakes.

I mowed my long overdue lawn today for the first time of the season with a loaner. It was a Kubota 1800 deisel with a 54" deck, just 2 wd not 4 - probably circa 1990 or so, maybe earlier if they had them back then - it looked OLD! Anyhow, I buzzed my lawn in under 2 hours - keep in mind that the grass was pretty wet and the ground still soft, I was on bald tires with 30# weights on each wheel - I was spinning all over and I still did it in a lot less time. It used to take 3+ hours with my old one. I can't wait to get my new tractor - yes I will bore you with some action photos, maybe even some before and after pictures.

Thanks for the picture of your 6 x 10 setup with your tractor/FEL. What would happen if you drove it in forwards? I MAY get a FEL in the future - seems everyone here thinks they are indispensable.

I haven't exactly decided to part with my little Sears Supersport just yet. Maybe I will once my orange one gets here, but there may still be some good in holding onto it.

Anyhow - I appreciate all the sincere advice offered here. It really helped me make my final decision with confidence.

I have only a small amount of lawn to mow, 1/3 to 1/2 acre or so but my new BX2200 cut my mowing time about in half over my previous Wheel Horse 520H and 48" deck. The BX is more manueverable, quieter, and will mow clean at a faster speed than the garden tractor. Now I've gotta figure out how to get more lawn to mow! Actually, that's what the FEL is doing now, making more lawn! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I tried the unit forward, but the weight didn't distribute very well and the bucket would need to overhang the front and sit on the toolbox which is plastic/composite and I don't think would hold up well for long with the bucket bouncing on it.

I intend to get a 14 or 16' trailer in the near future, as I trailer my BX1800 about 200 miles (roundtrip) every weekend in the summer to our cottage. I also want the electric brakes on the new trailer.

I looked at both green and orange when I was deciding. Had a BX2200 sitting in my yard for a week and decided to spend the extra money to get the BX22 instead. Originally I wanted green but the backhoe on the BX22 swung my decision that way. Have not regretted it one bit.

Wise decision. I wish I had a dealer that let equipment out for demo. They sometimes rent but not the BX's too much demand in So. CA.

I am also looking at the green orange tractors. I was wondering how the bx1800 is. I was first going to get the 1500 but was talked into moving up to the 3 cyl. Now I'm not sure if I should go to the bx2200. I can get the 1800 for 11,300 with 54 mmm fel loaded tires back work light and 5' rake. The bx2200 same config for 12,100. I really like the jd better and I was hoping to trade in my jd lx277 but the best price I can get is 13,000 with 54mmm and fel. Nobody wants my trade in so far.
The kubota dealer is really nice and close by. All others are about 1 hr away. Everyone says the dealer matters. Any comments are very welcome.
I will be cutting about 1.5 acres of grass flat, landscapng around my new pond. making new trails in the other wooded 3 acres. I do have one pretty steep hill that I will eventually plant ground cover on. Short but steep, goes from the pond up to the house. Would a picture help?
Thanks for your help
Warren

Warren,
Those seem like good prices on the BX1800 and 2200. But a little steep on the JD2210.
As this thread has pointed out - either of these will do the job for you. I have a BX2200 w/ FEL and 54" MMM. I paid $12,795 in march of this year. I love this tracor. I still have not put on the mower yet so I can't speak on that issue. But the 4WD and low gear takes this to places my trusty Toro 314-H could never go. And the Toro is a tank itself.

As I mention frequently I went with the BX partly on the fact that the competitor's were all new models. Didn't want to be a defacto beta testor. Also as you mention the dealer is important. I never got good quotes, time or attitude from my local dealer. So I went 25 miles in the other direction to a dealer who was more customer oriented.

You might check out the JD4010. Around here the 2210 was expensive enough to be competitive with the 4010.

Hi Warren,

“If you want a Honda… don’t settle for a Yugo…”

I’d say go where your heart is… you will have the tractor for many many years and the difference is miniscule spread out over time… and if you buy something as 2nd or 3rd best in your head… then it will always be that way during the length of ownership in your heart…

As far as trade (JD LX277), you will be far better off by selling it privately… use the local Want-Ad Digest, take a picture of it and it will sell quick if you have the right price on it!

If you want, private mail me and let me know the local dealers you’ve talked with… and I will help ya… /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I also am looking at green/orange. I priced the bx2200, 60in mmm, fel for $12943. Same exact price for the jd2210. Both dealers are close and have good reps.

Sorry John, but can't let this one get by /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
I have never owned, or even seen the JD, and it very well may compare to a Honda. I do have the Kubota and know it compares to Honda in terms of high quality, reliable equipment.
Maybe a better statement would be "If you want a Honda . . . don't settle for a Toyota . . .". Both are very good vehicles, just different. Both the JD and Kubota are very good tractors - just different.
I do agree with your point. Many times, it is tough to get those "dream machines" out of our thinking! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Terry

BTW- a fellow offered to let me drive a Yugo years ago - by the time I had driven it across the parking lot toward the road, I turned around and said "no thanks". it was only 1 year old and literally falling apart. out of curiosity I looked the book value on this 1 year old model - it was already down to $900! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Hi Terry,

Ah ha… I used it as a “generic” statement… /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

If the man had his heart set on a “Blue” tractor, I’d say the same thing…

If the man had his heart set on an “Orange” tractor, I’d say the same thing…

…and you know, sometimes picking out a tractor for the rest of your life can become emotional… /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

/ green or orange small tractor?? #58
More than emotional ! Very little sleep etc.
Ihave owned two JD lawn tractors. One I bought from my father after 8 years of use. The other I bought last year trading in the first one. Both worked great.
The problem I see is not that the JD costs a little more. It is that everyone on this site says go with the dealer. The closest JD dealer to me is 1 hour away. What kinda of service will I need and how often on a real tractor. My lawn tractors just needed oil filters etc. The JD has a few features I like , plastic body parts not steel (Rust in 20 years). Less vibration, controls better for my size and I like the two foot pedals.
On the other hand the Kubota dealer is about 20 min away. He has given a great price with more atch. for a much lower price than the JD. He is willing to talk and show his product as often as I show up to measure things. There was one JD dealer that really was nice and I'd like to do business with him but he again is 1 and 1/2 hours away. It boils down to go with the dealer or the tractor ?

/ green or orange small tractor?? #59
I guess a lot of it depends on how often you plan on interacting with the dealer after the tractor purchase. I do my own maintenance, unless it is a warranty issue (so far, none of those /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif). I bought from a dealer that is almost 3 hours away and have at least 5 Kubota dealers closer to me. One of them may get to do warranty work someday (hope not!) and I don't mind buying service items e.g. filters, fluids from them. I went with the dealer that had a reasonable price and acted like my business was important to them.
Best wishes and you really should go with your heart on the tractor you like best vs the dealer IMHO, unless you simply can't find a dealer you can be satisfied with!

Has anyone done a side-by-side comparison between a BX1500 and BX2200? Also, do you guys think a 60" mower is overkill for 9000SF of lawn?
