The 322 foot long Canadian Coast Guard Cutter Amundsen passed upbound through the Poe Lock this afternoon on her way to assist with ice operations in Whitefish Bay. Home ported in Quebec City, this icebreaker and Arctic research vessel is not often seen on the upper Great Lakes.

There's got to be some pucker factor in running an ice breaker...
How often have you gotten stuck in a 4wd vehicle...generally not often, but when it does occur, you're pretty well stuck!
Same for an ice breaker...I wonder if they ever get stuck on ice that is thicker than expected, or that they are rated for...?

Happy (wintry) weekend! Captured the American Century earlier this week downbound in Barbeau at the Neebish Island Ferry Dock as it entered Rock Cut. Capt. gave us a salute...and Capt. Lon of the Neebish Islander III ferry saluted back!

After a long winter in dry dock the Federal Yoshino left Thunder Bay, Ontario Shipyards and set sail. It's a success story for Thunder Bay as she was repaired by local skilled workers and contractors. This is a saltie.
