Just looked at Kohler online manual.... maybe I have Governor not adjusted
properly....manual says to push governor lever as far towards carb as it can go, and at same time rotate shaft counterclockwise which I did do....
but don't think I pushed lever towards carb...anyone share some tips ?

Follow the manuals advise. Loosen the nut on the governor shaft attachment plate. Insert a small nail or pin in the hole on the top of the governor shaft. Turn the shaft counter clockwise while at the same time pushing the governor lever towards the carb. Tighten the nut. It helps to have a helper. Three hands are also helpful. Since you advised you did not remove the front of the engine, are you sure the governor and governor shaft are properly mated so they will function as designed. If not properly installed you don't have governor control of the engine and the engine will exceed design RPMs and destroy itself.

Funny you mentioned a 3rd hand.... an assistant will be needed on this one.
I did not fully remove cover... but had enough space to work with...from sliding it away about 10 inches.... back of muffler prevented me from totally removing cover... and the thought of the muffler being removed... made me do the job with cover at the end of the crank...but not off.
I restore old Triumph motorcycles...so I was well aware of " synching "
the gears correctly...I think all went together nicely... with the exception of a possible drop of oil that came from pump, and may have dripped on the edge of cover....so there may be a misting type of leak on the very bottom of cover...
but then again I may have gotten lucky....one never knows with mechanical stuff.
Am about 1 hour from getting it right at this point... hope I have good news to report next time around.
Last time I thought I was done with job...governor shaft seal blew.
At this point, I don't know of any more seals that are left to blow...

VICTORY !
After 6 weeks of working through rain, sleet , and finally snow...
( job was done the old fashion way...out doors )
and all of you guys help and great tips...
I turned key today, and it fired right up, and after a few seconds of clearing
moisture I think out of intake.... engine runs like never before smooth !
Even has a different sound to it...very quiet .
I am so happy...I can't tell you.
There is still snow on the ground... and the true test will be to work run it for 3-4 hrs. straight on Sunday for a lawn mowing , and a leaf mulching.
Thanks again for all your help.
Will post some pics from a photo bucket album I will put together.

yep...that's why I have it down to the crank and will rebuild with all new seals,
and modern gaskets... believe it or not , they can be built to be leak free , and
reliable on a Sunday ride basis... one would never choose and old one
as a daily rider though....
