Greasing the joints

Mx5200 4x4 HST with 22 hours. I decided to go ahead and grease the axle points since I use it in very wet/muddy conditions. I applied grease to the front axle gear case support. It got harder with each pump. I figured it was filling the void and building pressure against the old grease. I was expecting to see grease flowing from the joint at some point. On the 6th pump I heard a pop and the pressure released.

Did I break a seal or something or did I just push some old stubborn grease out?

Also, what size is the breather plug on the front axle support. Should I see grease coming out of all the joints?

Is that the joint you should remove a vent plug first? I remember reading something about that....what's the manual say?

If you didn't remove the breather plug FIRST then YES, probably an o-ring. :mur:

The breather plug is on the axle support. I'm talking about the one on top of the wheel hub joint

Most likely you simply pushed out old hardened grease. The "pop" you heard was the old dry skin of the old grease breaking under pressure of the new stuff.

Breather plug on the front axle pivot pin - never heard of such an animal. I have a front & rear grease zerk on my front axle pivot pin - no breather plug.

Must be a different kind of animal...........

Mine also has a front and rear zerk on the pivot pin. Only difference is the front zerk has the breather plug. It's a square pipe plug.
