Hey, I have a chance to pick up a few parts for my L8 and was hoping for some opinoins from those who are more experienced than me with these things. The "bush hog" that I have for my gravely has a sloped front with a roller on it, very heavy blade. Is this suitable for heavy work like I have been using it for, or am I risking it? The fella has a round one with an open front (no chain guards) and said that one was more suitable for heavy work and mine was more for mowing...

here is a photo of mine (hope it comes through) gravely.jpg

He has a sulky in need of repair and a couple boxes of parts as well as a whole machine that is a "basket case", might try to get a package deal, might just pass on it, but if that round bush hog is truly more suited to heavy work than mine in the picture, then I'll try to talk him out of that for sure...

thanks in advance!

I don't know about more capable, but it would surely be easier to get stuff under the deck and as we know if you can get it under the deck the Gravely will take it out.

Yours does look a little bit lighter made than the ones I am used to, particularly the gearbox. If you can make a deal on the heavier one, I'd go for it. Can't hurt to have a spare!

thank you, that's exactly what I needed to know. I'll see if I can get the bush hog from him and use this one on lighter duty stuff. I don't like how mine comes down at that slope, the roller in the front is a must because when I put it in reverse and there is no roller on the back, it just digs haha

Super! All the heavier ones I have (and have seen) have heavy strap-steel skids on the sides to prevent them digging in. The skids are usually worn pretty heavily where they bend up at the front and back and need to be replaced.

I posted some pics (Rotary Plow) for your Pop in your other thread.

BTW, welcome to the forum(s) :welcome:

thanks buddy :) I'm not new to the 2 wheeled tractor or tractors in general, but am newish to gravelys... I can say that aside from being a little harder to maneuver, I like it better than the bcs machines I had before. I'll try to get that other unit off of him, he also has a tiller (cultivator) but I can't think of a use for it, I like my old troy bilt just fine for tilling/cultivating in already prepared ground mainly due to ease of use, I just barely have to steer it and really only work when it's time to turn it around at the end of the gardens...
