Grading Gravel Road Maintenance

I'm just surprised that someone in SoCal has a muddy driveway problem.

It's only this time of the year, the rest of the time the driveway is a rock.

I am trying to rebuild a road that will last me, without a lot of up keep.

I have a lot to learn in just the use of the tool, and then there is the material to use, A lot to learn all at the same time.

So far as I have said before, I like the tool.

Much also has to do with the amount of traffic and if drivers are aware enough to drive in a manner that preserves the roadway. I drive, and instruct visitors to dive at the very edge of the driveway, helping to keep vegetation at bay. I just shake my head when I see someone just drive through the biggest pothole! I guess someone has to make work for the mechanics and grader operators.

I instruct my visitors (wife and kids) to do the opposite. I you drive the edge on my lane way, it will become wider and wider. I instruct to drive thru the middle of the puddles but very SLOW.
BTW my lane way is almost 1/2 mile.

The problem I have is that the lane way is either to wet or to dry or to frozen to do maintenance.

Crowning a road base is no secret.
Adjust your blade or grader with the rt side lower and angled towards the center and drive up and then back on the other side.
That'll tilt or grade all the surplus to center.
Next comes that 3 rd pass (blade straight) to slightly flatten the center 'pile' that ends up in a crown.
On that last pass I like to reverse my blade and add some speed.

This was a way more succinct way to write it out than my diatribe! Exactly, pretty much that simple.
